Popular Picks- Australian Chardonnay and Argentinean
Gary: Hello everybody to welcome to wine library TV. I am your host Gary Vaynerchuk and this my friends is the Thunder show a.k.a the internet’s Most Passionate Wine Program and we are focused on two wines that are buzzing buddy—buzzing buddy.
Two wines that are selling like water here at Wine Library and so I said, you know how many done like this post episode Mott, I have not done the post episode in a while like what are people buying and let me review that. As a matter of fact there has been a part of me that things that these needs to be a regular thing like what wines are selling that I have not tasted. Let us put them on the Thunder show and we will see what are they going to do. That is what I want to do here today.
Two wines, two of the top 15 selling wines here at wine library that one is red one is white. I think this can be a great team show I would loved to hear from you and as always so leave something in the comment you too lurkers and let us taste them. So let us go to the first wine. Hundred three hill 2006 Chardonnay from Red Bank winery in Victoria, Australia 14.5 alcohol really literally were the worst labels I have ever seen. It looks like I printed it off my computer Mott. 17 US dollars, 90 points Josh Reynolds. Josh Reynolds is a critic that I agree with quite a bit and it is not about tasting this wine.
Neil Rob is the wine maker who had some of his wines passed and just been very impressed, so it is not about teasing this it’s got some nice interesting golden color. As you erring, as this is erring you probably already getting results from the NCAA tournament really hope Bailer’s still in it or otherwise that will be quite embarrassing. I just want to make that little point not a darkish Chardonnay that I have ever seen and ’06 has a little bit more maturity to it as a lot of you are drinking ‘07, ‘08, ‘09 vintage stuff and ‘06 being a hot in the summer and hemisphere almost being like a half a year ahead of us if you factored that in so let us give a sniffy sniff.
Nice little nose here. I am getting a nice little kind of apricot, nectarine kind of thing on the nose which I like very tropical, good fruit. A little bit of oak, little bit of butter seems kind of balanced Chardonnay wise though, 17 bones let us give it a whirl. Good grip. Nice acidity, thanks Mott. A little bit of steeliness some nice minerality on this wine as well. It is very much more almost make home in its attack than a new world.
I always give you know Australian wines a little buzz and you know a little zing sometimes unnecessarily and—but I won’t be doing that on this wine and once again you know it is like this wine critics that you kind of attached to, Josh Reynolds or something there with the palate I like it because I also like the Chardonnay it’s a little hot for me though Josh. So what is going on here? 14.5 yeah I mean just a hair hot for me good minerality; good fruit there is a lemon peel kind of thing going on.
Nice wine! Good structure. If you are not looking for the over oak, over buttery Chardonnay this could be a great alternative of your Macon fan. You like those Chardonnay’s from Macon, you can blush things of that nature who we to say. I think you are going to like this wine. It’s got some great character to it. Nice little kind of like vegetal almost component on the back end, pepper maybe green pepper believe it or not just a subtle tongue on the back end. Good tangerine, great kind like apricot smell, little bit of wood on the palate but it is balanced. I like it. Firmly good wine I am giving it 1 lower than Josh it will be 89 points but it is not horrible and you know maybe the 90 point score is making itself or maybe because people are just starting to look for Chardonnay’s that have a little bit more balanced and structure and this one definitely has that.
Urban—Uco 2008 Melbac Tempornio Blend from Argentina. 50—50 Melbac and Tempornio and the altitude on these wines is 3600 feet in the air. A hand picked and it comes in stainless steel vats just see what it says here. Aging three months in French oak barrels. 90 points Jay Miller, 9 US dollars. So no confusion for me why this is selling now that is hot, now that Tempernio it is kind of different blend Mott. People are trying to put things come interesting and what is nine bones. Not a whole lot in the wine world and then a blam 90 points score from a major wine critically Jay Miller you know do I know a lot of people—I get that the fact that matter is that is still a big score from the wine advocate, Jay Miller so people are going to grab that bottle so no confusion to why this selling like water because I had to try it. Its’ got some good color, let us give it a sniffy sniff.
Little fakey fake on the nose, you know some cherry kind of cola thing going on here. A little cinnamon action, rose petal, strawberry juice. It is a solid strawberry juice actually. Let us give it a whirl. So it comes across very candy like artificial. Who was that? It comes across very artificial to me, tastes like reduction of store candy. Like if you took skittles put it on the microwave—like 13 minutes in the microwave for the skittles, you take it out of the bowl it is melted and then you drank it, that is what this would taste like. It’s got some darkness to it, a little dark you know cherry almost like I do not know I hate chocolate covered cherries Mott Yeah I hate it there is something weird about going there. The whole thing is kind of like; anyway that is kind of how you feel about this wine. I literally can not believe this but I am going to knock off a home number of this one and unlike this for I went through 90 or 89. I am going to knock off a number in the front of this one and scores went 80 points a little bad action on this wine and was German Schacke number 80 for you when you had them? You like the Schacke?
Male: I did.
Gary: You did huh? You are happy to see him on the ring?
Male: Yup.
Gary: Where I was angry at ——
Male: I was.
Gary: Really?
Male: Yeah I was.
Gary: Yeah. 80 points for me this undisguised, you know there is something about the whole like you know carbonic maceration style of wine making that does not seat well with me. This feels very artificial it feels like it was made in the laboratory. Its’ got fake flavor. I do not know what to say, it just it does. It is like difference of you know, orange juice and fresh squeezed orange juice.
You know tropical is good there is nothing wrong, plenty of people drink it and it looks some kind of they choose the package. You know, but fresh squeezed is where this at, I kind of feel like I am that kind of person with the wine. This feels kind of like in the wine room instead of the vineyard, if that makes any sense to you its’ got that artificial candy flavor residuals sugar is too high for me. Back to when we have the three guys on. There was a time after residual sugar being too high in Mailbags this is a perfect example of that.
I am going to score to 80——a major pass.
Question of the day and link it up and you can link it from wine library any store I do not care. Go to Google search and link it. What wine are you buying heavily right now? These are wine that is kind of got your mind share or part of your palates market share right now.
Is there a wine that you are riffing on, just picking it up you are loving it, you love a deal Costco, you know treat on Joes, wine lib, Cinderella wine, whatever it is. Link up what you were buying right now. You and a littler bit of me, we are changing the wine world whether they like it or not.
