Can you make the Porsche 911 GT3 even better? Yes, you can, say the engineers at Porsche and have created what must be the most sporting 911 ever homologated for the road. A car designated the RS, two letters which Porsche stand for Racing Sports.
In principal this is nothing, but a racing car homologated for the road. To make sure that on the race track its competitors only see the big rear wing from behind, the car has all the power it takes, engine capacity is up from 3.6 to 3.8 liters, engine output is up 15 to 450 horsepower. You can also see this extra muscle on the car. Beneath the wheel arches there is now space for even wider wheels. Together with a wider track and aerodynamics for maximum downfalls, this is the guarantee for even faster lap times.
To make sure the 911 GT3 RS gets this power onto the road and onto the track the car comes with a newly developed six speed gearbox. Shorter shift travel means even faster lap times. And the gear increments are also shorter themselves. This means even better acceleration even though it does not necessarily mean extra top speed. But top speed on a race track is not as important as one might think. It's much more important to accelerate fast out of a bend than it is to have a very long sixth gear.
Although, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a thoroughly sports car, it is also fully suited for everyday use.
