Arthur St. Antoine: Porsche; these guys practically wrote the book on sports car design. This is the new Cayman S, a mid mounted 3.4 liter flat six making 320 horse power, made it to the company's new 7-Speed PDK Auto clutch transmission. We are expecting big things out of this little car, so let's take it for some hot laps around Mazda Raceway, Laguna Seca.
Lap Time: 103.0 sec.
Randy you just drove the Porsche Cayman S with the new 7-Speed PDK dual clutch transmission and you are grinning a lot, tell me about it.
Randy Pobst: Race care are race car, wow. I mean, this is in the Audi territory. The Audi R8, just being such a fun. The thing about the Cayman is, Gosh I hope they don't me for saying this, I think it's better than just about nay 911 except may be a GT3 RS, like the top of the top of the top and it's just a plain old Cayman. I am really impressed. Again the mid engine, that's the right place for that weight. And the Cayman S is the same kind of easy, low polar moment; I am not throwing a whole lot of weight around on the way end of this corner kind of feel. And at the same time, the Cayman understood more than the R8, probably little more than I would want, even so, but I could try that so hard, I thought the stability control was still on. And the PDK always have a gear, it's a fantasy transmission, incredibly smooth, incredibly quick shifts, just a nice, nice piece. I loved it in plain old drive, now I let the computer do the work on the shifting and it always had the right gear for me. It was really quick around here, I wouldn't be surprised. It's one of my quickest lap times because of the confidence I have with corner entry and the speed I had through a corner because I had no worries that the car was going to loosen up on me so I could carry tremendous entry speed. And that's just a really fine car. It reminded me of a really good handling race car. When I am trying to set up my race cars, I want them to feel a lot like this Cayman does.
