I am Steve Turano, welcome to this episode of body performance. After workout drinks, most workout it drinks. Do you need them? Yes or no? Well studies have shown that people who engage in very, very intense exercise with regards cardio or whether it is weight training recover much faster from the workouts if they have a carbohydrate drink, after the workout and it is mixed with protein. This actually speeds recovery process.
Now if you are the average individual, going into gym, stay in shape and loose a little weight typically you are not training with that kind of intensity. Therefore you do not really need an after workout drink. Because what it will do is will add calories to your daily choleric intake and we do not want that. We want our workouts to create a calorie deficit so we can loose weight and they have the post workout drink. It is just going to add some additional calories and it is really not that necessary.
So if you are intense athlete training at a very high level and you are really stressing your body from cardio or weight training or combination to the two. A post workout ready to carbohydrates and proteins will help speed the recovery. If you are the average individual this is not really necessary. It will just add extra calories to your daily calorie intake.
