Eric: So now, we have gotten to the point where I think the potatoes are they are more dead than they are alive. So we are going to harvest the potatoes now. They would not be fully mature, they would be what you call new potatoes if we have any potatoes at all. So we are going to pull this out today and we going to see what we are going to have underneath the mulch here.
Female: So new potatoes are not like a type of potato, they are just baby potatoes?
Eric: Yes, when someone is already having new potatoes, you go to a menu and says new potatoes, they are just young potatoes, they are potatoes that usually you harvest your potatoes in the fall and this being end of August, this would be a young potato but they taste great. They are kind of nice and tender.
So this is my neighbor’s potato which he brought over the show me how big his potatoes are. I do not think ours are going to be like this but we will find out in a minute here.
So here we go, I have got a wheelbarrow, we are just going to start pulling out this mulch and we will see what happens. Oh, look at this. These look great, here. There you go. So nice little potatoes, these are either onaways or corollas, I cannot remember which we planted where.
Female: You cannot remember because Henry ate labels.
Eric: Because Henry ate the labels. But these are great, look at that. Oh, they smell great. That is great. Okay so, we are just going do some harvesting now.
I thought these because these plants looks so diseased, I thought these would be really full of scab and stuff. But they are not, they are not at all. This will be great, we will cook these up tonight. No.
Female: They could be tennis balls. Are you growing tennis balls? Get away from my potatoes. Henry likes tennis balls and these looks like tennis balls but we were not going to let her do that.
Female: Is that a new potato?
Eric: These are new potatoes.
Female: Or a middle aged potato?
Eric: This will be great, this is good. This is much better than I though would happen.
Female: That is a lot of them.
Eric: Yes, there is a lot of them here.
Female: Okay, I am impressed.
Eric: Is that not nice?
Female: Yes, that is really nice.
Eric: They have fun little shapes. This is our potato harvest. I think we did pretty good despite of me getting the bugs wrong and not figuring out what kind of disease was wiping them out but this will be good, it is a nice size. We will boil this up with some butter and life will be good.
Female: I believe she is enjoying a potato.
