Nessa Wrafter: Here I am making myself very comfortable in the Style of Serendings of Isabella Oliver in North London. I’m about to meet the creative team behind the bunt, find a little bit more about what they do and how they do this.
Welcome ladies and thanks for joining us on Wedding Breakfast. So tell me a little bit about your design backgrounds cause I believe it’s quite an interesting story how you got started.
Vanessa Knox-Brien: My designing background was originally lingerie and sleep wear in New York, completely different from what we do now; we made the job by needing closed wear and came up with the collection of clothes that we would want for sale, some for friends and it really came from experience, personal experience that they came about during our pregnancies
Nessa Wrafter: So how many collections do you actually do for a year then?
Bauken De Swaan Aarons-Van Sonsbeek: The thinking for the company at beginning was to do very small casual collection of the essentials and got the timeless so whenever the black dress would be that you don’t, it’s not going to be the fashion, you know, when you’re pregnant for the second time or so, it’s just or it’s going to be like; but the problem was that when we got to realize that we were saying no to some of the customers when they were asking, you know, why can’t you endorse shins, why can’t you do this, why can’t you do that, can we have more colors, etcetera; that slowly we thought to understand that maybe we should move on without abandon and kind of respond a bit to people asking for so, we sold with 10 pieces, I think went out 70 or 80
Nessa Wrafter: So go on ladies, spill the beans; you’re awesome in that particular line
Bauken De Swaan Aarons-Van Sonsbeek: I think maybe everybody is being pregnant
Vanessa Knox-Brien: Yeah
Bauken De Swaan Aarons-Van Sonsbeek: To be honest, yeah that’s just the truth, everyone is pregnant
Vanessa Knox-Brien: Alaswan, yeah
Bauken De Swaan Aarons-Van Sonsbeek: It was Alaswan?
Vanessa Knox-Brien: Michelle Le Church in Manning Class and Alaswan had their babies
Bauken De Swaan Aarons-Van Sonsbeek: They just had their babies
Vanessa Knox-Brien: they just had and abandoned
Bauken De Swaan Aarons-Van Sonsbeek: Yeah, and abandoned, well as, really everybody; in America it’s not really taking off, big time, so we’ve got that big names there which is great and Heather Berry just had her pregnancy announced a little while ago so I’m hoping, the battle girl nice, see that’s the woman that I quite like
Vanessa Knox-Brien: In College, a couple of suspected pregnancies that we’re holding out for
Nessa Wrafter: So tell me the story about this Maxi-Dress from Austria, I believe that’s really fascinating story
Bauken De Swaan Aarons-Van Sonsbeek: Well, it’s very popular, every piece was popular but the Maxi Dress cause a bit of headache sometimes because women would come across that late cause we don’t really advertise for bridal wear for pregnant women and that we would come across that in a, you know, couple of weeks before their wedding and we sold, oh, I think quite dramatically and, you know, we’d have tannic phone cause I must have this dress and I’m getting married in, you know, this location in the world, well that location
Nessa Wrafter: So here we are, with the beautiful Alice who’s wearing the famous dress; tell us a little bit more about it
Vanessa Knox-Brien: Okay, well, one thing we loved about this dress that it is so versatile; after the wedding, after the baby even, you can just wear it as a regular summer dress with flats, wear this dress to you as casual as you like, it has an adjustable back, neck halter at neck tie so we can make it as tighter as much as you like. This comes off so you can wrap it or you can just wear it without the sash, tighten it back or tie on the side, we have this little ruffle detail just for the little added finish, and you got nice side pocket so it adds just a nice kind of slouchy appeal; nice and airy, it’s a mixture of cotton and silk, so you have the breathability and the airiness but it still has a little bit of luxury as well
Nessa Wrafter: So how much does this dress retail out then?
Bauken De Swaan Aarons-Van Sonsbeek: It’s 140 Pounds
Nessa Wrafter: Okay, so it’s really reasonable too, not like your other price range
Bauken De Swaan Aarons-Van Sonsbeek: We’d love it’s now it’s summer dress, and now it’s a wedding dress
Nessa Wrafter: Oh, look at the bride side of it
Vanessa Knox-Brien: Look how beautiful, and you, when you return and we turn; it’s a summer dress again
Nessa Wrafter: Well I love what I think it’s gorgeous, I hope we see more fun feature
Vanessa and Bauken: Thank you now
Nessa Wrafter: That’s all for me
