Preparing Your Current Dog for a New Puppy

Host: What can I do to prepare my existing dog when I adopt a new dog?
Kevin Simpson: Some of the things you can do to prepare your existing dog when introducing a newly adopted dog in your home, first and foremost is just simply exercise a dog. If you're current dog is a little bit more tired and not ease from a long work out when being introduced to the newly adopted, it can make the meeting a much smoother transition than if the dogs already currently wired up and excited.
You also want to be contentious that you're not over indulgent with your love and affection. Being excited for your new dog that he’s going to be getting a playmate or a best friend by doing so depending on the dog can make a slight shift in the hierarchy which would then turn—which potentially can be a stressful situation into an even greater amount of stress for the dogs who is awkward is that seems. You want to be careful not to overly baby your dog when ever you’re bringing this new dog into your home.
If you're looking at adopting a dog down the road six months or more down the road, you could take that time to properly socialized or offer additional socialization to your current dogs. So he’s a little bit more relaxed and confident when around a new dog. If you have a dog that is not so good around other dogs, maybe he pulls in a lesion, gets a little bit snaky with the dog. That dog is not necessarily a candidate to live solo in your home. Some of those dogs can be very selective and even though they don’t get along with all the new dogs they encounter, they can in fact often get along with a dog ones they have established a sense of pet camaraderie comity between each other.
