Mario Armstrong: Hey! Its Mario Armstrong, your tech guru for small business television, you're on sbtv.com. We’re here at the Internation Consumer Electronics Show in the Motorola booth. Joining us now is Chan and Chan has a solution for all of you small business owners that are frustrated with a weak cellphone signal. Chan, welcome to SBTV, thank you so much for taking a time out.
Chan Gundecha: Thank you very much.
Mario Armstrong: Explain to us this Femtocell Technology.
Chan Gundecha: Okay. Femtocell are small wireless access points that basically o into your home or it goes to offices that enhances the coverage. And so for a small business offices, when Femtocell is deployed, we just connect it to a broadband router for example, they can enhance the coverage in the offices.
Mario Armstrong: Okay! So, I'm the office, I have a weak cellphone signal, maybe I'm in an industrial park or something like that and my staff or my people aren’t getting good cellphone coverage, this is the actual device that does it?
Chan Gundecha: Correct.
Mario Armstrong: I'm confused. This looks like a picture frame.
Chan Gundecha: Yes. So you know, today, if you look at a number of vendors are trying Femtocells which are in a walks solution. And so we in Motorola wanted to try and leverage that technology that’s available in the market place today and integrate. So as you know, the prices of picture frame is coming down rapidly, the prices of Femtocell with volume will come down and you know in big numbers and there are cheap cellphone available today, so what we decide to do was to take all these three enabling technologies, integrate into a nice packaging like this one here. And so now you can have a picture frame, so you can have your own personalized pictures for the offices, for your home and you can also have additional features such as how do you enhance the coverage, maximize the coverage of the Femtocell.
Mario Armstrong: This is impressive. I mean, because essentially what you're seeing here folks, imagine a cellular tower, you know the towers with antennas, that wouldn’t really look nice in an office. You just slap an antenna in your office. This really is a picture frame on the front with a user interface but behind it and inside of it is really the technology that enhances cellphone signals, genius solution. I really like it.
Chan Gundecha: And also, it enables the user to use the existing cellphones, you do not need any new cellphones. You can use your existing 3G handsets to make the phone calls so for the small business operator, leveraging the investments they already made to make this service available and get better coverage so they can be reached anywhere anytime within the office environment, before they could not.
Mario Armstrong: Two last questions for you Chan, one, is it available now and what is the price if so?
Chan Gundecha: So we put this thing together, we’ve been trialing this for the last five months and on Christmas we put packaging together and we are now working the pricing issues at this point in time so I cannot draw out the detail pricing issues. And as far as availability, we are looking at trialing in the first half of this year and we see some kind of slow deployment later on this year.
Mario Armstrong: Okay! Well as soon as you guys make that available, please let us at SBTV know so that we can let all of our small business viewers know that this solution is available.
Chan Gundecha: Thanks very much. We will do that.
Mario Armstrong: Okay! It’s Mario Armstrong here at the Motorola booth at the International CES 2009 for SBTV. Don’t worry about this weak cellphone signals anymore. The solution is right behind me, Femtocells got you all covered. Don’t go anywhere we have more to come right here at the International CES.
