Rick: Hey, what is up? You are watching winksound.com. I am Rick.
Mateo: And I am Mateo. And in this video, we are going to check out for Propellerhead’s new software record. And we got Stoni and she is dropping by and is going to show us how to get started.
Rick: Yeah, we can not wait to sit down and talk to Stoniand she knows so much about reason and she’s got an exclusive copy of the recording software. She is going to be playing around with it a little bit, showing you how to get started in it and we will also be going into the recent software and show you how great an MNXT drum set.
Mateo: That is very cool. We are also going to be checking out SA’s New York campuses. See what they have in their audio technology program. And later on, we are going to take you guys and point you to some of the must-watch videos in the winksound.com committee.
Rick: Cool! So, let us get started right away. Stoni shows us how you can import one of your old recent sessions into the new record program.
Stoni: Click open, the old recent session here that I did in February. All to do is just hit open and opens up the session automatically, after you open up the session, your recent session and record. This is your rack. Navigate to your rack this way now. Now, there is another screen. You can just navigate through your racks. I mean, most people do the recent session. Now, you have the option to do your vocals. Do a rough vocals so go to review sequence to screen all the instruments that you’ve used and your recent session is sitting here. You could see them here on the side as well. And I think it is as simple as highlighting the last instrument, creating an audio track room and you are ready to go.
Rick: So some of you might be thinking about studying audio technology full time, so we decided to head down here to midtown in New York and check out SA’s school of audio engineering to find out what exactly audio engineering school is all about.
Mateo: We talked to some of the students and it took us all around their campus showing us all their different facilities. We got to see all the boards, their midi set ups, their edit rooms, so check them out.
Jack Mohaymen: Hi folks, I am Jack Mohaymen, an Italian student here at SA and right now, I am trying to mix songs that I have recorded a couple of days ago on this beautiful console, the new 88R.
Male: SA New York campus offers students various courses in audio engineering.
Rick: And here we are in the UAV center, okay? Which one would you prefer to use on me specifically?
Male: Some of the topics covered are signal flow, DAW such as pro tools, logic and digital performer and a log in digital mixing and of course those amazing boards.
Serge Medel: Hey, how are you going? My name is Serge Medel, if you need some drums from studio C and that’s pretty much what we do here. We make records.
Stoni: Hi, this is Stoni, welcome to winksound.com. Today, I will be walking you through Propellerhead’s new software called Record and we are going to be doing some audio tracks and we are going to be doing some shortcuts. I am going to walk you through how to get those programs really quick in and out.
Some people get tracks and they want to put the track into the software and then kind of just put the rough vocals in there for ideas. So the first thing you want to do is create an audio track. Hit create audio track, and boom!. There you go. Now, let’s switch the screens, when you go to F5, that takes you to the sequence screen, F6 takes you to the rack, F7 takes you to just the sequence screen all by itself. And when you hit function in both F5 and F6, it merges both. So, we are going to go here, we have an audio tract, as simple as just going to file, choosing import audio file, going to the desktop or wherever the location of your wave is. Choosing that wave, it tells you the detail of the waves, three minutes long, the bit rate, a sample rate, you hit open and automatically, it shows up on your sequence screen.
Mateo: This shows the videos of winksound.com and you can even upload some of your own.
Rick: Yeah, there are talents but here are some of the most-watched from winksound.com is committed.
Male: These tutorials talks about how to slice samples enable to live and how to make the effect envelopes.
Rick: So I am going to zoom in even more and try to get this number one right on the start of the snare drum.
[Demonstration]
That sounds pretty good. Now, say I want to drop the frequency over acuity sets. again, it is as simple as double clicking and creating your envelope.
[Demonstration]
Mateo: Big Man beats make classic clap text on the MPC 1000.
Bigman: Hey, it’s Big man, I am here to show you beats and other cool fade.
Rick: When you hear those so real thick clap sounds like you probably get them in sound hits and they are like (clap sound) it should be what they are doing is they are just taking a solo clap like this (clap sound) and are just layering them together.
Male: It takes us into shaping our drum sounds.
Rick: I can go to that 3000 kick, go to the level and hit window and I am going to adjust the attack. The attack adjusts when it hits. Some of the adjustments the KPN so just give in that top that pop. Like right there, I like that.
Mateo: Ableton Vigs takes us into Ableton to show us how to time stretch the song to clip the session’s tempo.
Ableton Vigs: Like on the loop bar here, and I can use my page arrows up and down. Just scroll 16 bars at a time. Looks like we are a little bit off here, we’ll click here and double click. Zoom out. Move this over. And then, we will start again.
[Demonstration]
Hey that sounds pretty good to me.
Rick: There’s tons of videos being added to the site all the time. So to help rate, share and watch the videos before they go on live, join the winksound.com queue panel at winksound.com/purepad.
Mateo: You could also upload your own video sound to the winksound.com community, okay? Send this in email of wink@winksound.com, so we could feature your latest videos.
Stoni: Okay, we are going to create a mixer. Take them so you drag and drop it. And you created an NN-XT by holding down shift and drag and dropping and it should, it loads up the NN-XT without any sounds. So what you do is there is an editor page inside the NN-XT, come here you open up the editing page, you have the option to load a sample. But you can also load multiple samples when you do that. So you hit the folder here, and I have a drum kit on my desktop. I am going to go here. Little hold down SHIFT and I am going to select a multiple of samples here. I want the entire drum kit inside of the NN-XT. So I hit okay and then it loads up every single sound here. If you know this, it is all highlighted. You come up to edit, go up this as highlight. While the NN-XT is highlighted, you go to edit and you come down here to something as called auto map zone chromatically. What that does is it takes every single sound and then assigns it to a note. Automatically, you notice every note is assigned to a key.
Rick: Hey, what is up? We’re in Brooklyn, New York and you are watching winksound.com.
Mateo: Hey, what is up? We’re in Brooklyn, New York and you are watching winksound.com.
Rick: Tell us about you know how it feels to be sharing your knowledge with the world and when you’ve been doing it, you know for some time now because we have always started about how producers always asking us different questions, different techniques.
Stoni: Yes.
Mateo: Right, but how does it feel that is going to be able to have this sound that is like sharing your knowledge with the world?
Stoni: I mean it feels wonderful. It feels absolutely wonderful. I finally had a home where I can sit there and people send me questions and emails all the time. So, finally, here is a place in the home where I can put a video together and just show everybody one time so when I get the email, I could start to play, go to winksound and actually had a tutorial step by step for you to follow.
Mateo: It is the easiest things you can apply by.
Stoni: I mean something as simple as plugging in your controller and I got questions like where’s my controller, how do I find my controller? Yeah I will show you guys here how it works. It is as simple as you know, having your controller, saving note, USB plug, plugging in to your USB connector here.
It is as simple as going up into your preferences. Just go to the drop down menu and you choose keyboard and control surfaces. These are different drivers and different controllers that I have used that are sitting inside of my rack. And in order for me to find the controller, I am going to press any key on this keyboard. It automatically tells you what controller you are using and it sends the midi information from the controller directly into recent. And then you hit those, once you hit those and hit OKAY, you have the options to use more than one controller. So, you can plug that in and you may have something like an MPD 24 that you would also be able to click here and use with recent as well. So you could have your pad trigger fingers and you could have your keyboard controller at the same time. Let’s create an instrument to see how the controller works. Then put a, let us trying using the four.
[Demonstration]
And automatically, you just see this, the controller. It is that simple
