Proper Posture – Nate Bosch
Hi, I’m Nate Bosch with Pianolessons.com. Today I’m going to talk a little bit about
proper posture in the piano. What you not going to do is slopes, A: limit your mobility as
you’re playing up and down the whole length of the keyboard, and it just doesn’t look so
good on the stage when you’re up there performing in front of hundred and thousands of
people if that happens. Now there’s one, the other one is having your elbows at a 90
degree angle, so don’t have the bench too far away from the piano that your arms are
straight out or too close, again it has to do with being able to freely move above the
keyboard. Now that being said sometimes when you’re playing a really good song and
you start to get in to it, you start holding on a little bit. We’ll just call that artistic
movement, that’s fine. These rules are here so that when you’re learning how to play the
piano you can get the most out of it right away. As you start to improve and you start to
create and improvise and do all of those things down the road you’ll find that well—my
friends tell me anyways when I’m starting to get in to a solo, I start coming down a little
bit and I’m playing—start to get lost in a moment, that’s totally fine. These just helps you
get started and get on your way properly.
