Well it’s about time again when we go out to our viewers and answer some of your questions. Today’s inbox question is from Austin from Montreal and he says, ‘I often the missed points in meetings when people are talking too fast, is there a product that will help me take better notes?’
Well Austin, you’re in luck. I’ve got the Pulse Smartpen with me. It’s made from a company called Livescribe and it essentially has a hard drive in it. Let’s just see how this works. I am using my special notebook that comes with the pen. It looks just like a regular notebook but it’s got a bunch of small, small dotted points on it and it actually records the pen motions and copies it to software as I am writing it here.
What is really unique about it is that is also records audio in the room. So if I am in a business meeting or I am in an interview and as I am taking the notes, it’s going to copy what’s going on around me and allow it to play back.
This is how it works. It’s got a little optical camera at the bottom of it and when you touch it to the page which has all these tiny little dots on it, it begins recording. If I want to record audio at the same time, I simply look at the little menu with the button here and select record.
In this case I am going say, ‘Lindsay is the host of Get Connected. She would love to start a fan club.’ Now, as you can see here, my talking is so much quicker than my writing. So this is a challenge for us when we’re in business meetings or say you’re interview and someone’s talking at you.
Now that I am done writing, all I have to do is press stop and I can then go back and actually touch my notes for the place where I want to hear the audio. So what it’s doing is—let’s just stops that there. So as I am talking over my notes, it’s telling me what was said at that exact point in time, pretty neat. It’s a great make sure that you don’t miss anything on those meeting.
Once you’ve done taking all your notes, the next step is to plug it into this docking station here. The docking station attaches your computer through the USB and—checks that little magnet here, so it touches in pretty easy.
From there, it loads into the software and syncs so that you can actually see the notes that you’ve taken in your page and have a recording of the audio. What is neat about this is not only had you digitized it off instantly but you also have the ability to share this information with other people who perhaps have missed the meeting or if you’re smart, you’ll give away your digital pens all of the other people on the office and never have to attend the meeting again. I am just kidding, we wouldn’t want to do that but you know it might come in handy once in a while
The cost of this pen is about $200.00. It comes with a notebook and replacement notebooks cost about $25.00 for two.
