Audra Lowe: Raise the glass and toss the holiday turkey in style. Rhiannon show us how to mix up a creative cocktail that will completely impress all your guests.
Rhiannon Ally: We have the perfect accessory for you Thanksgiving Day get together. Once the kids go to bed, the alcohol comes out. Master Mixologist, David Brogan is joining us today. Hello David.
David Brogan: Hello Rhiannon.
Rhiannon Ally: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
David Brogan: Well I am master Mixologist. I used to be actually being an investment banker. In about 7 years, I decided to give that life up.
Rhiannon Ally: And become a Mixologist? What is that exactly?
David Brogan: A Mixologist is part chemist, part artist and a lot of showman.
Rhiannon Ally: Now, you’ve won a lot of awards.
David Brogan: I’ve won awards. I’ve done a lot of red carpet events and I have about a 150 signature cocktails in my portfolio.
Rhiannon Ally: And the one you’re making today, the pumpkin martini, delicious.
David Brogan: Because it’s all about fall.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay.
David Brogan: And I am into pumpkin.
Rhiannon Ally: Let’s do it, me too.
David Brogan: So, we have our glass icing.
Rhiannon Ally: Chilling that.
David Brogan: We have our shaker full of ice. And the first thing we’re going to add, of course is vodka.
Rhiannon Ally: Of course.
David Brogan: I love 42Below.
Rhiannon Ally: But you can use any vodka?
David Brogan: Any vodka is great about an ounce and a half.
Rhiannon Ally: One more.
David Brogan: One more. One more, okay.
Rhiannon Ally: A little bit of spiced rum.
David Brogan: We’re going to add a little bit of spiced rum, right? About three quarters of an ounce.
Rhiannon Ally: So, a little less of that.
David Brogan: Yeah. We’re going to add some half and half. Now, I know people are going to say, there are a lot of calories but I would—
Rhiannon Ally: It is Thanksgiving.
David Brogan: And I’ve removed a lot of the calories.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay.
David Brogan: So, there you go. Now the next thing is pumpkin. You could spend all that time carving up a pumpkin.
Rhiannon Ally: Or—
David Brogan: You could do it with signature David’s simple way which is just to go to the store and buy a can of ready made pumpkin mix.
Rhiannon Ally: That is perfect. We like easy.
David Brogan: So we’re going to put nice, big—two nice big dollops of this.
Rhiannon Ally: Two dollops.
David Brogan: Dollops, you know what a dollop is?
Rhiannon Ally: Yes.
David Brogan: It’s a big, huge, spoonful, okay?
Rhiannon Ally: Okay.
David Brogan: In there.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay.
David Brogan: Now, we’re going to add a little—I like to spice things up.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay.
David Brogan: So we’re going to add a little bit of nutmeg.
Rhiannon Ally: Make it a little spicy. I like nutmeg.
David Brogan: A little spicier.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay. Add a little cinnamon. I love cinnamon.
David Brogan: A little cinnamon. I love cinnamon. And then we are going to add—
Rhiannon Ally: Some caramel.
David Brogan: A little bit of caramel sauce.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay.
David Brogan: Don’t that look good?
Rhiannon Ally: We’re ready to shake it all up.
David Brogan: We are ready to shake, shake, and shake.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay. Let’s do it. Look at that. You got a good technique. I like that.
David Brogan: I know, isn’t that great? Now Rhiannon, I hear that you have a few hours of bartending under your belt?
Rhiannon Ally: I was horrible; horrible.
David Brogan: So—no.
Rhiannon Ally: I never made a signature drink.
David Brogan: No, I doubt that at all. So I am going to get rid of this ice.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay.
David Brogan: And I am going to let you do the honors and pour that right in there.
Rhiannon Ally: Here we go.
David Brogan: Go on. Oh keep going. A little bit more.
Rhiannon Ally: A little bit more and then let’s get a little cream.
David Brogan: There and then we have a little bit extra because you always got to want to have some more.
Rhiannon Ally: Yes, okay.
David Brogan: We’re going to put a couple of dollops of fresh whip cream on top.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay.
David Brogan: Now you can go back and you could have—
Rhiannon Ally: You can add the rest but we’re—I like it just the way that it is.
David Brogan: You do?
Rhiannon Ally: Yes.
David Brogan: Okay, try them. Let me see what you think.
Rhiannon Ally: I do. Let me try it. Here we go. That is delicious.
David Brogan: I am so glad you like that.
Rhiannon Ally: That is delicious. Okay. This is delicious; the pumpkin martini but—Audra, coming up. We’re going to show you—David made a signature Better Martini.
David Brogan: Absolutely.
Rhiannon Ally: That is coming up.
Audra Lowe: It must have a lot flavor, it has to.
