We’re here today with Robert Hodichak from Artificial Grass and Landscaping. Now Robert, what is some of the challenges when you have or when you want a beautiful lawn and you have a pet?
Robert Hodichak: Well, the biggest challenge is with pets is that pet you own will damage grass.
Meriel Bradley: Right.
Robert Hodichak: So you have burn tailed spots also you have a very hyper active dog or a bigger dog that likes to run around possibly in circles. You’ll actually see that in the grass and you know, it’s not appealing to most owners.
Meriel Bradley: Right. They build that track and that track then becomes muddy pits. When then they come into your house they’ve got nice muddy feet.
Robert Hodichak: Exactly. They got the muddy feet and you know, and they knew you know if it’s green. You’ll track that into the house and it could kind of more of a new sense.
Meriel Bradley: We sand armed with a towel when they come in.
Robert Hodichak: That’s right. That’s right. Catch him as goes.
Meriel Bradley: Catch them on the way by. So what is your solution for that?
Robert Hodichak: Well, we believe artificial grass is perfect solution. Many homeowners also believed that as I probably say 90% of my customers are dog owners.
Meriel Bradley: Right.
Robert Hodichak: And the fact is that it’s very easy to clean up after pet you’re in doesn’t stick to it or animal waste doesn’t stick to it and it’s perforated so everything will drain through properly.
Meriel Bradley: Right. So what you do is just hose it down?
Robert Hodichak: Yeah. Periodically you hose it down or natural rain will do that for you. You know, if it’s a smaller area where the dog consistently goes, I do recommend using it or something like a light detergent or something with a vinegar or with an enzyme like a vinegar to break it down quicker of course
Meriel Bradley: Right. And then that just makes it sparkling clean and new. What about drainage? You’ll going to eliminate that muddy pore problem?
Robert Hodichak: Well like I said, you know after the heavy rainfalls and you got really has to go or if it snowed and everything start melting away. It’s going to drain very, very quickly so that it would probably the driest area in that so if you allow your dog to go out to it it’ll be easy and you’re not going to re-track and that through the house.
Meriel Bradley: Right. No more mud pits.
Robert Hodichak: No more mud pits.
Meriel Bradley: All dog owners will love you for that. Now, what about I’m assuming you’re not going to eliminate fertilizers which obviously you don’t want for your dog.
Is the lawn itself toxic in any way if they chew?
Robert Hodichak: No. the blades and soils are made of plastic and then again the infill is rubber. All of it is non-toxic and that so the benefit of it is also very similar to almost being like a chew toy for the dog and that it’s the same type of materials they would use in most toys.
Meriel Bradley: Right. Are there any other doggy pet owner tips that you’d share?
Robert Hodichak: You know, a lot of times, a lot of people think, “Well, my dog’s not going go on to your artificial grass. They’re very used to grass.” When you actually touch the grass itself, even those little paws that are very sensitive, it’s going to feel exactly like the real thing. The other side of it is giving your dog enough space. You know a lot of times you give them this little small little area where maybe it’s pit ravel or something like that. Artificial grass, you can expand it across your backyard and again expanding the play space for the dog.
Meriel Bradley: Right. So you give them that small area because you’re concerned about keeping your grass without those little brown spots. So now you can just let them have the run of the backyard.
Robert Hodichak: That’s great.
Meriel Bradley: Sounds brilliant. Now, also you mentioned the softness, I have to say that I cannot believe how soft and cushy the grass is and I really want to kick my shoes off and you know, it feels really, really good on your feet.
Robert Hodichak: I think that’s when it comes to a lot of pet owners even dog training facilities or dog kennels are starting to resort to the artificial grass just because of that softness.
Meriel Bradley: Right. And it gives them that nice outdoor feel. That’s wonderful, great information. Thank you so much.
