Summer brings a wide variety of bloom to my garden. Some are exotic and comes from far away places. And others like these purple-cone-flowers are as an American as apple pie. They grow wild in fields and along the roadside and mini parts of the country. And of course, you can just about always find them in gardens these days, because they are such super perennials.
Just look at this bloom, it is amazing how bright and fresh they look, even in the hot summer sun. This makes excellent cut flowers, and I often use them in arrangements. There is a lot more of these plants than just the pretty face. You can find it in almost any health food store, but not as purple-cone-flower, and not in this showy form. You see its other mane, botanical name is Echinacea and if taken in pill form, you can actually boost the immune system.
I noticed this is not the cold and flu season, but there is nothing nastier than the summer cold. What is amazing about this beautiful garden flower is that they can actually the symptom of a cold and cut down its duration. The active ingredient is extracted from the root of coneflower. And, it is freeze-dried that helps preserve some of its potency, before it is put in the pill form. The Echinanacea is not regarded as a cure for any particular problem; it is just a way that helps boost your body’s immune system, to get ready to fight. And, that is the reason why it is best to take it onset of the symptoms of cold or flu.
