Welcome to this week’s episode of Q and Eric where I would bring back he bubble pipe and Justin randomly throws a ball at me.
All right now, let’s get to the questions. Raul from Holland wants to know how to make a cartoon bomb. Like the old timey ones where it is a big round bomb with the fuse coming out. My suggestion for that would be, get like a playground ball at a grocery store for a couple of dollars or maybe like the cap from a PVC joint and you could just run a rope through it. Paint it all black and you got an old timey bomb.
Ronald Dessiold wanted to know how we recorded the sound effects for the ninja samurai fight. Well, actually we did not even record those sound effects. I got them all from soundtrack pro. I did modify a lot of them. I would speed them up or slow them down and some of them, I even reverse.
Speaking of creepy backwards messages, here is one.

Andrew Coon, 17, noticed Mike in last week’s jig episode. He wants to know what’s the deal? Is he just visiting? Is he trying to move to New York?
Hey Steve.
Steve: There’s no email on the printer.
Well, unfortunately, Mike was just visiting for a couple of weeks. But, while he was here, we got him in two episodes of BFX. So, watch those because they’re going to be awesome.
Legendary Loogy wants to know who does the voice for Gary. I think this is a silly question because Gary does the voice for Gary, it’s his own voice. What’s the deal man? You and my shrink all the time asking about Gary. He’s just my roommate and my best friend.
Doctor: So, Mr. Beck, what did Gary do today?
Eric: Well doctor, he killed the mailman again. It’s kind of annoying. It’s like a big mess. But, it’s his thing.
Doctor: Are you sure that Gary isn’t actually you?
Eric: No. Gary is my room mate. I wouldn’t kill the mail man no matter how evil or annoying or stupid he looks. It’s Gary, he’s strong for a puppet, I can’t stop him.
Doctor: Have you ever thought that maybe you are the puppet?
Eric: Wow, maybe I’m a unicorn too. Get out of here. You’re funny. But seriously, Gary is freaky.
Doctor: I’m going to subscribe some pills for you.
Eric: Sweet. Thanks doc, I hope these are good ones.
Doctor: Patient Beck exhibits psychotic delusions, post traumatic stress, late in homicidal tendencies, borderline behavior, delusions of grandeur and tends to manifest his rage as a puppet named Gary. I’m curious if Gary is a family member. P.S. I heart pony.
Eric: Just leave me and Gary alone. Stop throwing things Gary.
Devon23 ask, how does our slow motion seemed so smooth. Sally said by the seashore, well, a lot of times when we shoot test films, we use a sweet camera. It’s a Sony V1U and it has a built in slow motion feature. Although one of the drawbacks is when you are shooting that fast, the shutter speed is so high that a lot of times you have to bump up the game. If we are not in really bright light, you’ll notice that our slow motion stuff looks kind of greeny but it still super smooth. Like potato salad.
Male: You know nothing about potato salad.
Steve does.
Joe Big Banana Peel wrote in and says that when he shoots with his green screen, he gets some fuzzy distortion around the edges of his actor. He wants to know how can he fix that problem. There are three things that will help make your green screen effect more effective. One, you have to make sure that your green screen itself is flat and evenly lit. any kind of different shades of green are going to mess up your keying program in post. Two, if you can shoot in HD, that’s I going to make your keying process much better because there are a lot more pixels in the whole frame but especially along the edges because that is going to make it a lot smoother. And the third technique is pretty simple. It’s back lighting your subject. So what I’m going to do is I am going to show you – we backlight, we have a backlight here. So first, I am going to turn off the green screen and then we are going to go ahead and pan up. As you can see, we have this light right up here. That is called the back light. And what it is going to help do is separate me from the green screen by creating a little kid of unperceivable light along here and that is going to help you program. Do with magic and get rid with that green.
Let’s go check out Steve’s drawings of the day. Steve, what did you draw.
Steve: I got a nice one for you here Eric.
What is it?
Steve: This is fat Justin with a mustache and this is David Duchovny in the movie House of D.
That’s cool.
