Shalom Rabbi Jonathan Ginsburg. This series will be hundred question Jewish should know. I am going to ask the question who was wants give a chance to answers. The first have to do with the Bible number one. What is the name of the Hebrew Bible? The name is Tanak.
Number two what is Tanak stand for? The Ta stand for Torah, na standsfor Nibiem Prophet, the Hascalah stand from Katobim writings, the final section are 39 books in the all Hebrew Bible the Tanak.
Next, what is the Essedra or Parsia the Torah is divided in the 54 section each one is Esssedra or Parsia. What is the half Torah, well that is the prophetic section that fallows the Torah reading in Shibbah on Holidays where is actually really not sure why we have one. Some speculate that some point about 2000 years ago Roman Emperor forbade us reading Torah but not the rest of Tanak in so Tanak part in the Prophets the Rabbi looks for section that would be relevant to the Torah portions in the weak and they pick the section from the Prophets the middle section the Beim and that is how got the Torah is. Eventually that it goes lifted so that we can read Torah again.
What is the Hebrew name for the Bible and why did use now referrer as it to has as Old Testament will of course is Tanak we do not call the Old Testament, because Christians believer that is Old testament, they have the New Testament we believe as the only on Testament so we do not call it the Old Testament.
There are some differences between them the Old Testament books are arranged a little bit differently that first five are the same but they put root around judges and they end the with Malaki, we of course we end Malaki as the middle section of the Prophets.
What are the names of the five books of Moses. Well, in English you could remember it this way- Good Eaters Leave No Desert, G for Genesis e, E for Exodus L for Leviticus and N for Numbers and D for Deuteronomy. In Hebrew is Sbree Sheet, Smouth, Avieagrea by Midbar and Dibarem.
And what we believe took place at Cynai. Where the Orthodox believe that all of the Torah, except maybe the last eight verses or at least the Ten Commandments who given in Cyantnian the rest of Torah given in 40 years as I have explained in my video in Hebrew Bible. None Orthodox Jews do not believe that exactly occurs at Math Passion, t. that was written actually over many hundreds of years by many People.
The next question in the Bible why is King David reign is consider such an important episode on Jewish History and if yes, when was it?. We believe is establish the City of Jerusalem in 995 that is the main reason is so important unified expanded nation in all kinds of conquest. And, that was the significant period of King David. The most important part though that the Jewish Tradition believe that Messiah comes from King David.
Next question who they the early Kings of Israel and why the Country later partition in the Israel in Judah? Well the first King was Saul, second King was David third king was Solomon. After Solomon died, the kingdoms were split into two. The Ten Northern Tribe in the North called the Israel, the two Southern Tribe is called Judah where the Jerusalem was. They split because it was a loose coalition all alone in that was the power of the Kings, early Kings are really held together. And, then the Book of Kings one and two it is traces the history of the Kings in both Kingdoms until the Ten Tribes in the North of the Israel was loss in 722 by the Assyrians.
Next question, define the Prophet, name three and four in Prophets. While there are back prophets in the Torah, Merriam’s called the Prophets, Moises called the Prophet, Nathan is called the Prophets the time of King David< Samuel call the Prophets, literate Prophets thou there are 15 that is Isaiah, Jeremiah, in Ezekiel. Are the big three because of the size of there books and then there are 12 small ones very wonderfully important ones Elmas, Josiah, Sahayiah, Nakulm, Jacob, Mallacki etcetera so those are the Prophets.
Prophecy is tough to define there are those who believe it is simply a ‘Divine Gift’ others believe that you can spiritually tune your self to be able to receive specials messages from God.
In number 12 it say’s that God alones speaks to Moises mouth to mouth word for word everyone else who receives God word gets in dreams and visions. Prophets where not literal tape recording of God word but rather refracted through the Prophets himself. I think the beautiful book to read about this is Abraham Joshua as the ‘Prophet’s’.
And then finally, in the section what is the Talmud? Why is it calling the World Tradition? You can see my video on the Talmud on 101, basically the Talmud is the capitulation of the ‘Oral Law ‘stay the word until 220 when it is written down and called Missionah and then the Missionah was discuss for couple hundred years both in the Palestine and in Babylonia in those Talmud, those recording the Gamarasse eventually combine with Mystly he called the Talmuds.
These includes the first video on Jewish literacy of hundred question Jewish should ask. We continued next with issued about the Synogue and the Prayer Book.
