Taniya Nayak: So your bored with your kitchen or how about the facelift? I’m showing you how
to update the cabinet you already have for only $60 with stainless steel contact
paper and new hardware then I’m sprucing up the backsplash with magnetic and
chalk board paint. And the best part is I did that all for under a $100 and in half a
day. I’m starting with the cabinets, all you need is contact paper I choose one of
steel finish to give them nice and modern look. I’m going to make that process a
lot easier from myself and remove the hardware first so I can apply the contact
paper and one feel smooth. My next step, I measure the cabinets to make sure I
got a perfect fit with the contact paper. Now it’s time to cut it down the size, here
is the tip, make sure your plate is very sharp so that you don’t get any tears or
pulls. It’s important to cut my contact paper to the exact measurement of the
doors since it just lying on top I want to make sure that it’s a perfect fit.
Looks I am ready to hang up the contact the paper, simply peeled back the paper
and start right in the top corner you have to make sure it’s lying up perfectly or
else the rest of it will go as cue. By a two secret weapons a credit card and a sack
to help smooth up the lamps of the contact paper. I’m doing this so it goes nice
and flat with no air bubbles. Slowly peel the paper down at you squeeze them on,
if you got an air pocket that you just can’t get out simply lift the contact paper up
and start again. Don’t worry if there is a little extra hanging over it’s really easy to
just trim them out for a perfect fit. My last step is to use a soft cloth like a sack,
use this to white down the cabinet to make sure all the air bubbles are out. That
looks great a new cabinet and about four minutes.
This is a great way to get a quick fix to your old cabinets, it’s water resistant and
if you are rented you don’t have to worry about the thing it will kill right off. Next
step my backsplash; my backsplash is a two step painting process. The first step,
is a magnetic paint, this paint is great because it has little flex of metal limits so
that I can actually stick magnets to it. I’m using a smaller ruler so I can work it to
the tight space. Once you’ve put it on is the first coat you can use any color on
top, I actually love the black it was really well with my industrial look. Now that
my magnetic paint is dry my next step is to add another layer of fine. I’m painting
chalkier paint on top of it so it will have two things going on, magnetic and a
surface to ride on. Chalkier paint is great in the kitchen, you can write your
grocery list, today’s menu and even a memo for your love one. While my chalk
board paint dries I’m adding new knobs to finish off the industrial look an
economy pack of knobs like only cost $10.
Now that’s a great finishing touch, in under four hours my kitchen was
completely renovated. I turn the standard kitchen into an industrial shake space by
resurfacing my cabinets, adding a backsplash with magnetic and chalkboard paint
and finishing it off with hardware. I did that all for under $100 and in half a day.
