I made it very clear in all the videos that I am not a turn table so no judging. I’m DJ Ty from agi@prodj.com. Today, we are checking out Video Scratch Live. This is going to be a feature that’s going to be usable by everybody that owns a copy of Scratch Live, as soon as the 1.9 chips and Video Scratch Live 1.1 chips.
I’m actually using Beta versions here and I am controlling this with the DJM-800 and one of the cool features of the DJM-800 is that it has MIDI all over the place of the mixer. Before when you were doing a video with Video Scratch Live, you had to use a Rane TTM 57SL. It’s a phenomenal mixer, phenomenal sound quality and had those extra processors inside to all the Video Scratch Live with but now, they’re bringing that to the rest of the market.
And what I want to show you here is not only some of the cool effects and some to the things that it does is a lot of people asked why should I buy a MIDI mixer? And I’m going to show you why. And not to mention, we had a customer who call us or e-mail us earlier today and what are the cool on the DJM-800 because he thought when he picked up Video Scratch Live and he is going to be able to handle, do it with the mouse or the keyboard shortcuts to do all the crossfading. And he soon found out that it was no fun and I’m going to show you why you should pick up a mixer with MIDI control. DJM-800 by Pioneer, the Ecler EVO4, the Ecler EVO5, Korg 04, Korg 08, I won’t hit the Zone 40, all phenomenal MIDI mixers.
And so what I’ve got here is some controllers map. I’ve got audio on this channel for my right deck. And I’ve got audio over here from my left deck. I can use my crossfader to mix between the two tracks. This is one of the many crossfades that it shifts with, ran them sequencing at the tile. Actually, it slows the same track. But it could do the ability to crossfade audio and video at the same time. And again, there’s a ton of effects. We can go over those in another video.
I’m able to map things via MIDI control. All my DJM-800, they control things in Serato Scratch Live and it’s this simple. You click on the MIDI button here and here is my MIDI control panel. You can see that I’ve got all kinds of anything green that has already been assigned or reassign the crossfader. So it’s assigned to medium put Channel 1 CC11. If I click here, now it’s red. Move the MIDI control you wish to assign or hit return to on assign. All you got to do is click and now it’s assigned. Return, clears it, and then reassign. It’s that simple.
So in addition to be able to mix audio with the crossfader, you can now use MIDI to do that as well. Other things you can control, I’ve got two extra whole entire Channels here on my DJM-800 that are also MIDI controls. And I can map these controls which I’ve already done to some of the effects in Video Scratch Live. So we’ll pull that up on the screen. By now, they’re bypassed. I can enable them because I map the bypass button so my fader starts. Extra keys here on my DJM-800. So by pressing that, the MIDI, I’m able to turn that effect on.
This is probably hands down where the coolest effects on this piece of software. Check this out. It’s all EQ reactive. It’s all music reactive and what’s doing is the base is moving and affecting the video. Reset and do it again. You can control how intense or how reactive the effect is. You’ve got to stop the tumbling because I’ve got it map to the level of game here using this. I can bring it back up, break it all the way to the top, reset, you can layer effects.
That’s just one deck. I’ve got stop map to the other deck as well. Two other effects. That’s the one that I’ve showed when we were coming to the video. And again, no judging so I can’t scratch but turn table that’s out there that want to cut video and mix video. This is wicked cool. Anything that I do with my time code, it’s pretty reactive. And again, I’ve got this map so I can turn this and bypass the effect. I can re-enable it. And then, there’s another effect that we’ve done right here.
What this gives you is three separate panes, row, mid, and high. Each one of those panes is bouncing and reacting to the music that I’m playing. So you can bring on a pull string to tighten it up. And you can hear on the beat reacting down on the left hand pane. When I’m done with that effect, I can bypass it. I have a map of MIDI controls for the other effects but there’s a ton of them here. You can layer them. You can tighten that down.
How cool is that? $10,000.00 that use to cost to do this. There are other solutions to mix and spin video now. Pioneer makes phenomenal hardware. Do not get me wrong. It is the top of the line. But there are other solutions out there and there are Pioneer Jocks that are using this stuff to mix with. So DVJ’s have their place. Serato Scratch Live Video has its place as well. Look for a video and John, I’m calling you out. You got to hook me up brother. I need an SVJM1000 up here. So I’m going to show you some amazing stuff you can do with Video Scratch Live and it is not going to make the Pioneer hardware obsolete. It’s going to give you the best of both worlds. Video and music accessibility through your laptop, run into our Scratch Live and Video Scratch Live and the Pioneer SVM1000 mixer. That’s going to be in another video and like I said John, don’t let me down, man.
Serato Scratch Live Version 1.9, I’m running it here with my brand new SL3 Interface from Rane. Video Scratch Live Version 1.1, this is still on Beta but they’re common guys. Released candidate three, it’s almost here. So video jocks, it’s here guys. If you want to mix video, you got to have a video, a mixer with MIDI on it or a Rane TTM57 SL, it’s as simple as that because mixing with a mouse is no fun.
