Recovery from a Heart Attack

Gretchen: Hi! I am Gretchen from Oregon. How long does it take to recover from a heart attack?

Joseph Kannam: Gretchen, that depends on how big the heart attack is. If you have a relatively small heart attack, these days we are treating many heart attacks with either Clot Busters or Angioplasties and we are able to restore blood flow and maintain good heart function very early in the heart attack process. So you could be recovered within a week or two of a heart attack.

If you have a big heart attack, that can take up to four to eight weeks, and it also depends on your age and your physical fitness, and how fast you can recover.
