Recycling the aluminum cans we use merely everyday just make sense.
First off, it could not be simpler. After you drink your favorite beverage, you toss them into the recycling bin, but the coolest part is what happens to it after that. These valuable cans are hold off to the recycling center, who knows how many times they have been there before because aluminum cans can be recycled over and over again.
Not only that, recycling aluminum cans save 95% of the energy used to make brand new cans from virgin materials. Here is how that affects us all.
The energy save by just recycling just one can actually power a TV for three hours. The energy saved by making cans with recycled materials could light Washington DC for nearly four years. And recycling aluminum creates 97% less water pollution than creating a can from scratch.
Could it get any better? Yes, it can. Aluminum is the one recycled product that not only pays for itself, it also helps to pay for the collection of all the other recyclables in your bin including the plastics and glass. That is because it is the most valuable. The can just typically make up just 20% of what everybody’s in the recycling bin, but they generate 70% of the total value of what is inside the bin.
Each American uses roughly 400 aluminum cans each year, right now a little more than half of those make it back to a recycling center. The rest are just filling up the landfill. It also takes 60 days to recycle cans and to make it back to a store shelf and the benefits are phenomenal.
So, do you part and buy beverages in aluminum cans instead of plastic ones when you can. They make sure every can ends up in the recycling bin.
