Hi! I am Crystil and I work with I.C.O.N.'s creative connection at the I.C.O.N. Lab and today I am going to share with you a little bit about what my passion is, what my inspiration is. And with my look that I've created here, when I think about these that I've a passion for, it's work, art, being able to create styles, take influences out of the past and give them more of a modern twist.
So, with my look over here, Karen Elson was really my inspiration and how she wears her finger wave look, but it's soft, it's movable and it's more for the client for today. So as you can see my set. And I turn my model around. It's very simple, I didn't go too technical with it. I just pin pieces up, but the trick here is, when I pin my pin curls up, I chose one direction for one section and I did the opposite direction for the other section, to give me sort of a finger wave look, without having to wet the hair down and literally manipulate it.
So, I am going to take my pin curls down and start forming them now. So, as you can see right now, I am already starting to form the pin curls that I have placed in the hair, in the direction going from left to right and then right to left. The way that I created this set to, to bring it more modern is, I didn't give it so much volume on the top and I am creating a volume on the bottom to give texture.
Then I am going to turn her around and repeat the same steps on the other side. So I didn't get confused, I worked with three simple sections. This being my first, over here on the left side being my second and then the back being my third. And that helps to give me sort of a pattern, so I don't get lost in the middle of my set, I know where I am going.
And the great thing about creating a set is that you can make it into as many different styles as you want. You can wear it long, maybe when you go out in the day time or maybe when you are going out shopping, and then at night maybe when you go out to dinner, you can put it up, you can place it back into a ponytail onto the side, it's extremely versatile.
What I used to create my look was, I wanted it to be very shiny, smooth and sleek without any -- I wanted to keep it organic. So, I used Energy, which is a deep cleansing shampoo, Energize. The reason why I use Energize is because it protects against any mechanical, chemical or thermal damage. And then I let the hair dry in its natural state because I want it to maintain a little bit of the texture, as well to help me in creating my waves.
After that I place Moraing (ph) which is our body building foam and then I set it with Former, and the nice thing about Former is, it's a hard hair holding spray, at the same time you can brush it out, you can do so many different things, you can use it maybe as styling gel, you can use it as a setting lotion or just to smooth the flyaways from the top.
Okay so as you see, we have a very glamorous Hollywood sort of look, in minimal time. As far as the set goes, setting time took me maybe about 25-30 minutes, because I didn't -- I wasn't so precise of my set, that's the great thing about nowadays is modern hairstyles, they're different from the past, because we don't have to make a helmet out of the hair. They don't have to last a week like they did maybe in the 50s or in 40s.
Styles of today change and they're very versatile. So, I was very simple, when I put set in, I did four sections in the back in my sub-section and maybe three in the front, because it's really about expressing my client's inner beauty as opposed to creating it with the hair, in a way of maybe like a helmet looking, look.
So, this is my look, maybe if my client wanted some soft waves, if she didn't really know where she wanted to go with it, you can use this as a black tie look or even just walking around on the street.
Next, I am going to smooth the hair down to create my organic look.
