Refuting Lied about Judaism and Talmud Shalom! The purpose of this video is to talk about the accusations that anti-Semites make about Judaism and the Talmud in particular. One of the clear advantages of the internet is of course that you can spread truth in Judaism but also spreads evil and on the internet there are evidently many sites which talk about Judaism as a terrible thing and have all kinds of falsehoods about Judaism and the Talmud and several people have written me to ask me to ask me to counter some of that. The first thing I suggest is that you go to the website www.Talmud.faithweb.com and there they have a detailed re-battle of the ridiculous accusations that anti-Semites make. But I will just call through some of the general charges. The first of all you should see my video on the introduction with Mishna but I only just explain basically that Jewish religion believes there was no old law that was communicated by God to Moses and to the other generations, that was finally written down in 220 CE when the material got to big. The rabbis at that period who qualified this book of the Mishna, that was in Hebrew and then it was discussed an air made by other stages for several hundred years and together they have discussion on the Mishna of the Talmud. Talmud is 22 volumes, thousands of pages. It has all kinds of statements and allegorical ideas but of course as you pick through the whole thing, the anti-Semites have done a very thorough job on trying to misrepresent this cast the truth about the brilliance of that book. First of all there is a general charge that was so ludicrous to me that the Talmud is holy. it is all written in the bible. First of all, why should Christians care whether Jews think the Talmud is holy and written in the bible and that? What difference does that make to them? Second of all, it is such a Hebrew critical charge because they think our bible is subservient to their bible and that anything but their bible is not holy. So that is a ridiculous idea, not all Christians of course but the ones who are making this charge. But the clear false to one of that charge is that of course the bible is the holiest thing. There is nothing that supersedes the bible in significance. The Talmud’s purpose is the how to explain and interpret what the bible says. How do we apply this in a real world situation and the Jewish law subsequently strive to do the same thing. The second made category of charge is that it had to do with the claim that Judaism sort of blasphemes Jesus and Mary and says bad things about them and the site here Talmud.faithweb.com with a very nice job of showing that the supposed prowls, they are claiming Bilha is supposed to be Jesus are just ridiculous. Scholars completely reject that and there is no basis to it. But in any case I do not even understand what the challenge is. We do not believe Jesus is the son of God. Any different on the other human being and Christians do, so fine! Even if the Talmud did say Jesus was not God. That is the basis of our belief and so what is the problem with that? Third, they talked about how the Talmud has all these immoral statements and the Talmud.faithweb.com has a very nice job regarding the issue on showing how ridiculous is it. That of course things may sound silly if they are presented as an allegory but when they are properly understood, they are sublime and beautiful wisdom. The anti-Semites claim that the Talmud considers gentiles not equal or they are subhuman, the same charges the natsees made about Jews and that was completely a falsehood. Judaism believes from the very beginning that every human is made in the image of God and that the Tories are over and over this, one law for Israelites and strangers alike. You have to love your neighbor as yourself. It could not possible be a system in the world that is more supportive of people that are not exactly like us then Judaism. It says they have to be treated exactly equally and that you have to love all of God’s creatures. And we believe in that that the bible starts one Adam to show the world that children of the same person, there is world one being and there is no notion of race in Judaism. We are not a race. We have every kind of ethnic group in Judaism. It is a people. the bible calls us an am a goy. We are people, not a race and so that is a ridiculous charge. And sometimes this false code books that never existed or they make up quotes which this source, the Talmud.faithweb.com shows very specifically. One of them I have actually experienced, they talked about the charged that the commemorate prayer we have on Yankee poor says that we disavowed vow any vows we make before we have ever make them and once that somebody calls me up when I have Senator Norm Coleman who used to be the Mayor of Saint Paul. This is to avoid somebody saying in an emergency, “Oh, I swear I will do this,” when you cannot do it and then you do not want to be held accountable for rush of bad vows. Or they talk about this passage that we have during the Passover Seder where we open up the door for Elisha and say, “pour out your wrath upon me, evil ones.” This was done on the time when the Jews were observing the Seder and people were searching their homes and mange’s trying to fair out that is Jewish, so that they could kill them. The passage is not talking about Gentiles. it was talking about destroyers, evil people. And again, tell them we will take them out of our context. And they dress up the anti-Semitic libelous which I talked about on my video about the anti-Semitism. The Talmud is a marvelous, brilliant, work which Jews started for thousands of year which shape our culture and helps us understand about the world view that we have and trying to understand what is in God’s mind. Only concurring hundreds, and hundreds of rabbis, you probably do not agree with everything they say but it is a sublime and brilliant document such as Judaism and there is no religious tradition that cherishes individual dignity, Jewish or non-Jewish more than Judaism.
