Hi! This is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder and welcome to part 10 of our special butterscotch.com 10 part series on reinstalling Windows XP.
Well, we’re done. We’ve done a fresh, clean reinstall of Windows XP. We’ve gone out and gotten all of our Windows updates, so we’ve protected ourselves form that respect. We’ve restored all of our data and programs. We got everything reinstalled back in our computer, our music. our photos, our videos, our bookmarks.
Now, the last segment we have to do to protect our investment of time and money is to do the things that protect our computer and help keep it running smoothly. So, you want to make sure you get an antivirus program. I installed Bit Defender. You can install something else. I have some examples that you can download in the show notes. It protected the antivirus, fishing, spyware. Some programs are strictly antivirus and other are strictly antispyware. And some are combination programs. Totally up to you which kind you decide to use. But be sure to use something because viruses and spyware are a very real threat on the internet. The other thing you want to have is a program to defragment your hard drives. I've got DiskRescue here. The product is DiskKeeper, both very good for defragmenting your drives. Too many people make the mistake of dumping software in their computer and never defragmenting. And gradually your drive slows down. So make sure you defragment on a regular basis.
Another good thing to have is something like SpeedUpMyPC or Tuneup utilities 2009. some of these are a combination products that can do multiple things, clean your registry, defragment it, remove the junk files that you accumulate on the internet, all the things that slow down your computer. I like to start a scan here, you’ll see this is a fresh install and yet I still have some things that need fixing. Already 513 privacy files, network tweaks, Windows tweaks, Startup tweaks, all these things that can be adjusted. So, you want to take care of your investment by protecting it with antivirus and antispyware by defragmenting your hard drives, by cleaning the registry and removing junk files to keep your computer running fresh. So, we’ve come to the end. This concludes part 10 and hats all there is to it.
