An easy and economical way to Do Your Part is to reuse items you already own. When you reuse, you are conserving the resources and energy needed to make new items and when we make less, we also create less pollution and waste.
The options for reusing items in your home are endless.
Let's start with getting some bags and using them. And reusable bags aren't just for the grocery store, take them everywhere you shop. Or make your own custom reusable bag out of one of your favorite old t-shirts. It's quick and easy and you're kids will love doing the project with you.
Also, teach your kids how to pack no-waste lunches with reusable containers, napkins, and utensils, so nothing ends up in the trash. Even the grounds from that cup of coffee you love can be reused to fertilize acid loving plants in your garden. And a rain barrel can capture thousands of gallons of water every year for your garden and your plants prefer it.
In the home or office, print on both sides of the paper and then recycle it. And lastly, rechargeable batteries are a must. New technology means the batteries come charged and stay charged longer. Reusing just one rechargeable battery could replace a 1000 conventional ones.
These are just a few ways to Do Your Part to reduce your eco-footprint on our planet. Get creative and see how you can reuse more and trash less.
