At Lexus, Toyota's luxury division, the letters LS stand for Luxury Sedans. The latest in the line-up goes by the name of LS 460 AWD. In other words, with permanent all-wheel drive.
That does not turn the Sedan into an off-roader of course. The all-wheel drive does improve the car's driving dynamics and is a nice supplement to the already comprehensive safety package for the LS.
The LS 460 AWD is all set to go on ice, snow and wet or unpaved roads. On smooth asphalt the sedan continues to boast all the driving comfort Lexus owners are used to. Complemented by the world's first 8-speed automatic transmission, giving you wonderfully fast and jolt-free shifting.
On the outside the Lexus flagship appears in the usual L-finesse design. At the back, its striking tail lights and wide exhaust pipes are quite impressive. The interior of the LS features the usual luxury of a premium class Sedan with standard items like leather comfort seats and real wood trim. Everything is top quality, its operation intuitive.
The all-wheel drive system derives from the larger sibling, the LS 600h. The 4.6 liter gasoline powered V8 in the all-wheel drive vehicle delivers 362 horsepower. In standard mode, torque is transferred to the front and rear axles in a 40 to 60 split, yet can also automatically adapt to the driving situation. The additional 145 kilograms of weight it brings to the scales compared with the rear-wheel drive LS 460 without the AWD suffix, you especially notice at the pump.
Fuel consumption rises by half a liter to 11.6 liters per 100 kilometers. The base price of the Lexus LS 460 AWD is just under 89000 Euros.
