Review of the Nikon D80, D40, D40X and D60
Name is Conan Fleming. In this review, I’m going to be doing an updated review on a Nikon D80 and a Nikon D80 versus a Nikon D40 and D40X, and the D60 as well. And the first thing you’re gonna notice here is that I no longer own a D80, this is the D300 here. The reason I don’t own a D80 anymore is because after I got the D300 I no longer had any use for the D80. I didn’t need a second body at all so I sold it. It was just sitting in my shelf collecting dust, so, what’s the point of keeping it. Now, I really did love the D80, it was my, one of my favorite cameras. It was a great camera to have a year and a half ago, a year ago, and even just 6 months ago. However, if you’re thinking about buying the D80 now, you might wanna reconsider buying something like the D40, D40X and D60. Now the only reasons I’m suggesting this is because the D40, D40X, and D60 pretty much have the same IQ as the D80. Not only that, but they can do some things actually better than the D80 coz of the newer technology in them. Well, mostly the D40 and the D40X are also a lot cheaper than the D80. And like I said pretty much do the same things. However, the D80 does offer two special features that can apply to some photographers; that may be really important to some photographers. The first is autofocus, the D80 has much better autofocus, much more precise and more points, it’s much better than the D40, D40X, or D60’s autofocus. And the second, probably more important thing that the D80 offers is that it’s compatible all night cone lenses where as the D40, that the camera are not, they are only compatible with AFS lenses. So, if you’re considering a really good, a better autofocus system for sports and action or if you’re considering buying or you already have lenses that are non AFS, then you definitely wanna consider buying the D80, in fact you probably want to buy the D80. Coz the D40 then won't be useful for you. Well, if those two features however are not useful for you then definitely buy the D40, D40X, or D60, because they’re cheaper, they’re easier to use and they’re really good for beginners. If you’re a beginning photographer who’s getting his first, who’s getting their first SLR ever, then definitely get the D40, even over the D40X and the D60. The D40 is dirt cheap, has pretty much the same image quality as the D40X and D60. The only way you ever see a difference is when you print like 3 foot wide prints which no one does that. It’s easy to use, it’s small and just great and not to mention, its low light image quality, like no light and stuff is actually much better than the D80 too. Another reason that you might wanna consider not buying the D80 is the technology is getting better, and the D80 is getting pretty old. It’s over a year and half old, or it’s almost a year and half old. So the D80, D80’s probably gonna be replaced soon, probably by the D90 or something like that. Every other camera has so far like the D200, the D2X and the D40X is even been replaced by the D60 theoretically. So I have a feeling D80 is gonna be replaced within the next few months by the D90. That’s all speculations, of course though. However, if you really do want a D80, and those two features I mentioned earlier don’t really apply to you, then you can probably buy a D80, use and you still get your money’s worth out of it. If not though, please buy the D40, it’s a much better value and pretty much does the same things as the D80. Once again the two features that I mentioned at the D80 interest you and are gonna be useful for you, then buy the D80, if not, buy the D40, D40X, or D60. And those are a couple of my opinion changes in the D80, and this has been an updated review on a Nikon D80.
