Natalie: So a few videos ago I asked the question in the beginning of the video, what is the most unhealthiest worst food that you can possibly eat, and so we got a lot of responses and the number one response that we got was the deep fried twinkie.
So that is what we are going to talk about today. Now the regular twinkie has a 150 calories, so that's choice you known about 3 bites you have a 150 calories, so my question for you today is how many calories do you think are in the deep fried Twinkies. So pause the video no cheating don't look ahead don't search on the internet, I really want to know who wins and so let me know what you do think? How calories do you think are in the deep fried Twinkies? Twinkie trivia, the twinkie was person did it in 1930 by a bakers by the name of James Stewart, the Twinkie was originally filled with a banana cream filling and now its filled with the vanilla cream filling, and the reason for that is because during world war II in the early 1940s there was a banana shortage and so the Twinkies began to get filled with vanilla cream instead of banana cream.
500 million Twinkies are produced each year, host is estimates that it takes 8 million pounds of sugar 7 million pounds of flour 1 million eggs to produce the 500 million Twinkies every year, and this is the fact that you didn't know, it takes 45 seconds to blow up a twinkie in the microwave. Now the twinkie is filled with the vanilla cream filling. So you might thing that that's you know it says cream filling you might think that it has dairy some kind of milk in it, well milk is not mentioned on the ingredients list another words it is a non dairy cream.
So that might you guess you to thinking that if you are vegetarian or if there is a vegetarian out there they can eat the twinkie because it doesn't have any dairy in it. Well it has beef fat listed on the ingredient list, the regular twinkie has 150 calories and it actually is 4 inches by one and half inches for one Twinkie but there is two, Two packets so if you are going to be eating Twinkies more than likely you are going to be eating two in a packets so just double the calories so you are eating 300 calories worth of Twinkies.
Now that is just the regular twinkie, that's not the fried Twinkie, and here is the break down for the different nutrition facts, so the regular twinkie has four and a half grams of total fat and two and a half grams of saturated fat, it has 220 milligrams of sodium, 20 milligrams of cholesterol, 27 grams of total carbohydrates, 19 grams of sugar and only one gram of protein. It doesn't actually say that the Twinkies have trans fats on the nutritions Lebel because they are two low to register per twinkie, how ever it does have a hydrogenated oil, so its still has trans fat even if its says it doesn't on the nutrition packs label.
Now we are talking about the fried twinkie, so let me just first explain a little bit about the process how they take the regular twinkie and then they change it in to this fried Twinkies, so they take it up the package and its chilled so it doesn't disintegrate in the frying process and then it is rolled around in flour its dipped in a temporary batter and then its put in a hot oil at 380 degrees and its fried for anywhere from 90 to 120 seconds. And that heating process turns the cream filling in to like a set pudding texture, so then I remove it from the oil and the grease and then they sprinkle with powdered sugar, drizzles sauce on it and usually serve it with the side of chocolate sauce or a side of rasberry dipping sauce. Calorie content wise its about 425 calories, for the fried twinkie, that is a difference of 275 calories for the fried process alone and that actually does not include the powder sugar or the drizzling sauce or the dipping sauce, so another words in order for you to be eating the fried twinkie you are getting probably almost about 450 calories and just a few bites of food, now fried twinkie has become most popular carni fair and one of the articles I was reading said that 26 thousand fried Twinkies are sold at a carni fair over an 18 day period, and then they also said that people will drive from hours away to eat these Twinkies.
So the total fat grams of the deep fried twinkie is 34 grams, that's over 50% of what you are allowed in a day, as far as what is recommend for fat content in your diet and then it has 45 grams of carbohydrates so the majority of the calories that you are eating in a fried Twinkie are coming from the fat alone. The ingredient list on the twinkie is really too long to read through but I just want to tell you that Natalie's 4 no no's, that are on the ingredients list. Number 1 enriched flour that means they take all the good stuff out of the flour and then put all the artificial nutrients back in, and that's what in rich flour is, number 2 has, high fructose corn syrup in it I have talked a lot about that and then how you need to stay away from that. Number 3 it has partially hydrogenated oils which contributes to the Trans fats and number 4 it has artificial food colorings and artificial flavors.
Bottom line the fried twinkie has got to be one of the worst foods that you can possibly eat, and definitely you should not be eaten on a consistent basis, and we are going to be doing more videos on different kinds of foods good foods and bad foods, so If you have any ideas if you have anything in that we would like to investigate and review to every one.
