Hi, I am Tim Carter from AskTheBuilder.com, and I am getting ready to install a new sink drain right here, and it requires that I have to drill a 2-1/8 inch diameter hole right through, look at this, this 2 x 4 bottom plate, and below it is a 3/4 inch thick sub-floor. That adds up to 2-1/4 inches of wood. That is a pretty big distance to go through.
You might think, well, Tim, that is not a big deal. I will just use my regular drill, and put a hole saw on it. You know something like this, this a regular drill with a hole saw. The trouble is, this hole saw is typically only meant to drill through things maybe about an inch thick.
Here is the tool that I would use. I think it is a much better tool. This is a half-inch right angle drill, and it delivers incredible power out to the drill bit which is out here on the shaft and it spins it at slower speed than a regular drill, but delivers incredible power. Watch how fast I can drill a really precise hole with this particular tool. You are going to really, really like this a lot.
Oh, I love the smell of the pine shavings in the morning. Okay, check this out here. Come here and look at this. I want to show you how cool that hole is. Look at this. That is a really nice hole. It goes all the way through down to the basement and you can see that the inch-and-a-half pipe fits perfectly.
So the tip I want you to remember is this. When you have to drill a large diameter hole through some wood like this, make sure you get the right tool, and get the right bit even if it means you have to go the tool-rental place. It will really save you time and money. I got to get back to work.
