This is Jason Sheftell on the Riverdale section of the Bronx.
This is city in the country with Manhattan only 22 minutes away. It looks more like Vermont and it does anywhere else of the boroughs. This is probably the prettiest area in the cities.
Architects love it here, so do the politicians and a lot of lawyers. Investment bankers even had country houses here back in the day.
Joseph Kennedy, the father of John F. Kennedy, had a huge house here, and some say the richest man in the world just bought a gigantic hall around the corner from here.
There’s a place here which has one of the prettiest little housing complexes in the city. It almost looks like gingerbread homes. You also have some rentals in the area which you had to jump on it when they become available, about $1800.00 for two bedrooms and about $1200.00 to $1300.00 for one-bedroom. You can, if you’re lucky, to score a great one-bedroom for about $2100.00 in a 1950s co-op building with a great pool.
What I love about this area are the great Tudor homes, like the one behind me, about $3 or $4 million, a six or seven-bedroom home. It looks like a little castle. There are some new construction homes going up here as well and very few as the neighborhoods try to maintain their historic preservation. For about $800,000.00, you can get a very cute two-bedroom cottage as well.
Wave Hill, a wonderful park just right around the corner from here, and there’s also great schools for the Orthodox Jew. We like it here because it is a great place to walk your dog. It’s a great place to even go bird watching and the Hudson River is only steps away.
