Hi! I am Bob from Toronto, Canada. This guitar lesson is about harmonics. Harmonics are very high pitched tones that are played by touching the strings like so.
[Demonstration]
There are two different ways to play harmonics. First is on the fret board like this and neither is with your picking hand like this.
[Demonstration]
There are several places on the fret board to play the harmonics. Mainly, they are at the twelfth fret, the seventh fret and fifth fret. to play them, what you have to do is to place your finger likely on the string right straight above the fret and play.
Move your finger around a bit until it sounds right like so.
[Demonstration]
You can also play harmonics on the second fret. Very high, the fourth fret and the ninth fret but to get those harmonics note on the second, fourth, ninth fret, you need distortion. And it is best to play harmonics with distortion anyway, yet it enhances the sound.
The sound is very dull without distortion. You can also use your thumb on your picking hand to create harmonics as well, like so.
[Demonstration]
To do that, just play a regular note on the fret board like that. But when you pick, let your thumb bounce off the string then let it ring. So pick, thumb down and off.
[Demonstration]
You can also move your thumb around to get different tones as you can hear. I will play at one fret like this.
[Demonstration]
But here how you get the different sounds by moving your picking hand around. You can also use the Whammy bar to enhance the sound of a harmonic, like so.
[Demonstration]
I hope this lesson has been helpful and if you have any questions just message me.
