Rolex Watch Parts and Terminology

The dial is a face of the watch on which the hands and the hour markers are found. The hands are what is used to display the time and are categorized by the hour hand, minute hand and second hand. The hour markers can be displayed by diamonds, stick markers, roman numerals, and Arabic numerals. The crown is a round part found on the side of the three o’clock that is used to wind and set the watch. The crystal is the clear part that covers the dial of the watch. Prior to the 90’s the crystal was made of acrylic, today, all Rolex watches come with a sapphire crystal. The bezel is the round ring that frames the crystal and dial. The lugs are the pointed edges on either side of the case. The bracelet is attached to the case through the lugs and the spring bar. The end piece is made to look like a link, but is really the part that allows the bracelet to be attach to the case. The case is the main part of the watch and it is also referred to as the head. Inside, you will find the movement of the watch and the dial, bezel, and bracelet, are all attached to the case. The bracelet is also called the band, and it’s the part that wraps around your wrist and completes the amazing work of art that is a Rolex watch.
