Rules for Placing Furniture

Hi, I am Thom Filicia from Dress My Nest, and I am here to dispel some design myths. Another typical design myth is that you try to match all your furniture. I think that is absolutely incorrect. That not only is wrong, but that's bad. You don't want that. That would look terrible. It would look like you ordered your furniture online. It would look like an inexpensive hotel or motel.

No, your furniture should never always match. It always want to seem like a great outfit. You want to mix the pieces together and you want to feel like you brought these different pieces together, and really styled it in an interesting way.

People feel that when they choose one material like metal or glass or glass or wood, that they have to follow through the entire space. That's absolutely not true either. It's all about a balance of materials. You want to balance lights and darks. You want to balance woods with metals and glass and other finishes. Painted finishes. I love to see a beautiful wood dining table with painted chairs around it. It's a great way to compliment one another, and for one to balance off the other.
