This episode is brought to you by AwesomeDrinks.com where the best drinks begin and G Vine the first ever gin made from grape spirit.
Welcome to Common Man Cocktails. I’m your host Derrick Schommer. Today, we’re going to do the rum swizzle. This is cool. It’s very simple actually. We’re going to use this Gosling’s dark rum. We’ve used this on like every episode for the last two weeks or so I think. Look at it, we’ve already cut it down and that’s really from the show.
Everybody has been telling me how great this is. Viewers keep telling me, I mean they suggested it and it turns out, you guys are right. This is also going to have some ginger ale so we are going to use Schweppes ginger ale. Let’s see what else we got here. We’re going to have a little lemon wheel, some lemon juice, a little Triple Sec which gives us the citrus flavor. So this is really basically citrus, rum, all kind of wrapped up together with some ginger. So if you like those ingredients, you’re going to probably like this drink.
I also wanted to mention our sponsor. We’ve use them a lot on the show—G Vine gin. Besides just being fancy it’s a floral gin. We’ll go through it one more time. We’re going to do a gin episode next time. We’ll use some G Vine gin. Definitely something cool if you can find this stuff, check it out. We’ve been using it for a while so we figured sponsorship would be kind of nice and they went for it.
So on to the show and at the end of this show we’re going to do a little contest for you. We’re going to do little giveaway. So let’s get going we’re going to mix this up. We’ve got our G Vine Boston shaker. Is that not cool? These guys rock and we’re going to drop in just a half ounce of the lemon juice, nothing too extreme because you do not want your face to just pucker up.
And let’s do two ounces of the dark Gosling’s. Now, you could do any type of dark rum you want but this stuff’s pretty good. So, if you’ve got this handy or you can get it, you will not be disappointed because it’s like a sweet brown sugar rum almost. It’s just really good.
We’re going to do Triple Sec. Now this, we’re only going to do a half ounce as well. Throw in a half ounce of Triple Sec and we’re good to go. Now we’re not going to put the ginger ale in here because this is why. Hear that? That’s gas; that’s carbonation. Shake that up and there’s a big mess in your hands. So, remember that. So let’s ice this up.
And I forget to mention the Collin’s glass. We’re going to put it in this nice cool Collin’s glass and go to AwesomeDrinks.com to pick up some Collin’s glasses. That’ll do. There we go.
Now, this is really our base. We still got the ginger ale. Now, it’s not going to explode on us. It’s very good to put ice in your Collin’s glass. It makes for a better drink. That will do. Here you go. You do not want to use the ice in the shaker because it’s all broken up now and it’s kind of half melted. You’re really going to get about two drinks out of this. That’s always nice you get an extra drink because you’re going to fill about five to six ounces of ginger ale or kind of just do it by eye or by flavor if you like a specific amount of ginger ale, a little more, a little less. You could play with the recipe as long as you know not to put it in the shaker. You’re going to be on the right step to not making a mess. So there you go. You got that.
Now, we have this little problem here with just the size of our little wheel of lemon but there you go what you got there is you got nice little lemon filters so you get a little extra lemon as you sip which is nice. You can stick it on the edge but that’s an overwhelming lemon. Let’s give it a try. Well, you got the intense ginger so that’s cool. We don’t do a lot of ginger drinks.
Now there’s another drink called the Dark and Stormy so you’re probably go, “Is this the Dark and stormy?” No, because instead of this, you use ginger beer. So you’re going to get an entirely different style in fact, smoothness, bitterness than from what you’re getting here. This is going to be a little springy. It’s got the carbonation really just to kick it up. Lightens the drink a little but not unlike a club soda but this gives you that ginger flavoring and the rum fits.
They say it’s a very good marriage and it’s not a sour drink either. It’s got the same refresh factor of say like an iced tea or lemonade so you know on a warm summer day this would be a nice drink. It’s got a fancy presentation. It’s not too potent. You’re not really getting a lot of alcohol flavoring like really attacking your senses or your throat so there’s no burn. Overall, the Rum Swizzle is a pretty good selection. So there you go, that’s the Rum Swizzle.
Now before we get going, I just wanted to mention that we’re going to do a little contest and what I decided to do because I like these Tiki God heads. They have been pretty popular. I have has a lot of comments about them and the fact that they’re really heavy. So what I’m going to do is I’m going to buy to these guys and ship them to somebody who wins the contest. The contest will end at the end of April. I believe that’s the 30th of April. And what you need to do is go to everydaydrinkers.tv, that’s my blog. There’s a little log in box in the side, register, fill out some information, and tell us you’ve found us. That type of information and then post a comment to this episode or any of the upcoming episodes and you’re immediately entered to win.
The contest unfortunately is going to be only Canada, and United States. I know we have an international global presence but shipping is the problem. The winner will get two of these, his and hers or you can make two zombies for yourself or whatever is the type of drink. I figure this will be a good one. This might be something you don’t go out and buy everyday because you just buy a Collin’s glass or something more traditional. This is a little cool. You’re getting them for free. So there you go. We’ll mention it again next time to make sure you guys remember to go to the site, sign up, and leave a comment.
And there we go that’s your Rum Swizzle. Check out our sponsor—G Vine gin, awesome gin. We’ll use it next show. We’re teaching you how to drink.
