Hey, YouTube, I’ve got the ThinkPad T42 here obviously if you resolved, if you’re looking for a review this is not it but I'm going to review the notebook running Windows 7, not the notebook. So physically but running Windows 7. This thing was designed for Windows XP. It’s several years old, the only sticker on back so it’s XP Pro.
It’s differently ThinkPad build color. It’s a good computer. I have a review on my channel if that’s what’s you’re looking for. I will elect the notebook. Specs, it’s got Pentium M processor, the mobile Pentium processor, so local are 1.73 gigahertz I believe. Pentium 735, decent processor L2 to make cache differently up today is dual core standards but it does the job. It’s got a gig of DDR 333 megahertz RAM. It has 512 that to another 512 sticker recently and it has been going on pretty well.
So it has 40 gig, 5400 RPM hard drive. It’s got XP Pro on it Service Pack 3, relatively newly installed in Window 7 release kind of one, built 7100, obviously 32 bit, very new install on it. So, we’ll build it up which is an XP before it runs just fine on here so I'm going to try the Windows 7.
For a minute and 35 seconds into the video, we’ll say a minute 40 right there we’ll test the boot there. As you can a lighter Windows 7 built officially in the boot screen as oppose to the 6801 boot screen in previuous alphas. So we’re 20 seconds into it, rather impressive at 25 seconds we’re past the boot splash and the day welcome screen, 35 seconds into the video. It says welcome, 40 seconds and wait for the side bar. It should be opening. I believe I have that said and here it is, 50 seconds.
Alright, so on under 60 seconds more like 55 to be exact, everything is loaded. By the way, it’s a new installed. There is really not that much stuff installed when everything is taken up out of startup that I have installed. So just in under a minute, we’ve log on to Windows 7 with a gig of RAM, we’re on 43% in the CPU. It’s just on 8%, down some 38, 5%, see what 4%, 14% so it’s very capable. Obviously, you're not going to get error on these graphics card. It’s only 32 meg but I think that looks better than XP.
Now, I used the ThinkPad C-61 as my everyday machine. It’s got 4 gigaram and 2 gigahertz dual core. It’s obviously quite a bit faster than this. However, for what this is, its’ really good. I have not said, I save it as well. It’s got wireless built-in of course, 80211 AVG down in the basement. It’s a good wireless card. Actually, we’ve done it. I was impressed with it with the systems specs here.
As you can see the Windows experience index only rated it A1.0 which is the worst you can get in A1.0 or 7.9. The processor was a 3.2 which is not very good compared to my other machines being up in the four and five range. But you know what on a machine like this it’s more than capable to run this operating environment. RAM was at 4.1 which is actually higher than I thought. Graphics, 1.9 obviously it’s not a real high end graphics to that rate. Gaming graphics 1.0 score and the primary hard disks is a 4.3 which is the highest score. This is pretty good. I actually I was a bit surprise there.
We’ll go to view and print, details for performance and system integration. As you can see manufacturer, IBM model 2373 JTU. Total amount of system memory, 1.00 gigaram. System type 32 bit operating system, number of process 164 bit capable, no. Total disks size, 37 gig. I've got 18 gig for drive C and I think drive C and I think drive C is 7 and D is XP.
So I've got 12gigs free so tell me a 6 K is installed and then XP is 8 gig install. It’s a DVD reader up there and I don’t think I really have the best graphics that were installed because it says graphics memory not to take care than 000 for dedicated graphics dedicated system and shared system. The best display reads are operating system is 1024 by 768 at 60 hertz. But for the specs it’s going to run Windows 7 okay. Maybe not to my standard, maybe not to yours but as you can see I’ve been doing a little bit here. RAM is still calm. It’s on 47%. You know that’s lesson fact on there.
Open up task manager, 522 meg, 520,491, 489, this is coming down but you know for Windows operating environment I'm really impressed because this would sit here out of a gig but would it be using 800 meg. Beam processor, it has been below 30% whole time. We’re using 470 megaram. It’s more than capable. We’ll do open up media sensor. There it is and hit the enter key and we’ll see how long it takes.
TV and video may not work as well because your video card is not supported for features and we figured. I don’t think I have the right driver. I tried a couple of different drivers. Windows update doesn’t really find anything better but I can't error because it’s 32 meg. So if that air message run there it really wasn’t as bad as you’d think for the processor speed.
We’ll open up control panel here from the desktop. I don’t know if I click that. So that’s not a whole lot different from your 3 gigahertz still dimension or whatever. Network, there it is. It takes a couple of seconds for graphics to render Explorer window. So it’s not a bit of slow. Open up Internet Explorer. There it is. You really not wait in them for a lot time here.
We’ll shut up down now and we’ll test that so I will shut it down at 8 minutes and 10 seconds which is now. As you can see, it fades right in there, log off fairly quickly. I'm not sure if I'm really impressed so we are 10 seconds in addition down process, 15 seconds. The disks utilization light okay so what was 22 seconds to shut up so that is not bad at all. Now we’ll try XP. I don’t have a whole lot of time left for video but we will at least get XP kind of boot it up.
Back to the system bios there, this is Vista’s boot letter or a Windows 7 boot letter. We hit okay at 8 minutes and 50 seconds let’s say. XP is actually slower. So here we are at 10 seconds into it. I still have the splash boot screen here. I liked XP and if I were using this full time, I would most likely used XP just because this is a bit snappy or within Windows but Windows 7 runs pretty well. It used to be higher in performance level.
Alright, so about 40 or 50 seconds so a little tiny bit faster than Windows 7. It may seem longer because it longer boot screen but we have less black out time. We don’t have enough on time on video. Thank you very much for watching. Windows XP are virtually well in here. So thanks again for watching.
