Russell Simmons born October 4,1957 in Queens New York. Russell Simmons, entrepreneur, American entrepreneur, co-founded the pioneering hip hop label Deft Jam along with Rick Ruba. He has a net worth of 500 million dollars, so definitely doing his thing and has done his thing. He has been doing this for a very-very long time. He started out, again his born in Queens, he started out as a local street hustler back in the 70’s in the late 70’s he soon decided it wasn’t for him. The street, the drug dealing life wasn’t for him. He soon enrolled in a local community college in Harlem New York. Soon after he started on the side in his spare time from his college buddies. He began to promote parties, local hip hop parties in the Harlem and Queens area and he also started to promote local acts. One of which is Run DMC and also Curtis Flow.
Now Run DMC we know his brother Joseph Simmons, Reverend Run-Run, everyone who call him when half of Run DMC. Russell Simmons was also a part of promoting the shows for Run DMC making sure that people came to the shows and just doing all of the marketing type stuff for the shows. So that’s how he got started out, soon after he said he produced records, so it wasn’t just about promoting parties and promoting shows. It was about producing some records and getting his name as an executive producer or producer.
Russell Simmons branched out into other things, so now he has his rush communications umbrella which again what else what isn’t he doing? He has the Deft Comedy Jam, so which is a local—lets say a traveling comedy show where all the biggest comedians come out and perform live before a studio audiences. He has his clothing label Fat Farm which of course we all know and have heard about. He also has a VISA debit card program which is called the Rush Card, so its mainly geared towards African Americans while I guess started out towards African Americans but the goal of the card is to establish credit for those with less desirable or those with low credit scores or not so great credit history.
So doing a lot for the community, he’s a huge philanthropist, his known to fight various causes whatever it will be for civil rights, whether it be peace in the hip hop community and that’s Russell Simmons. His definitely doing his thing, his a man with mojo.
