Hey, my name is Seth Jenks. I’m the Online marketing Director at Advent Creative. And what we’re going to talk about today is optimizing your website.
There are few different points that we go over when we talk about optimizing your website. I believe in a holistic or just a complete 360 degree approach to Search Engine Optimization which includes optimized design, focused, relevant content, effective keyword marketing, backlinking and social networking, analytics and testing, customer retention and then repeat. So, it’s a process that continues and continues almost until a year that really lean excellent website.
What we’re talking to talk about today is optimized design. Your visitors have to think, is there a clear call to action when they get to the website? Is that a call to action driving conversions? Is what you do immediately obvious? These are big questions that don’t usually come up until your side is live and you’ve put lots of time and lots of money and effort into building your website.
A lot of times is an after thought, what you need to do is right now think of those things when you have your website on a napkin when you’re talking about with your designer your firm. Whoever you’re using to build your website, you need to be able to answer a few basic questions before you get through the whole development process. The shorter the better, the more simplistic the better. And you need to be asking these questions, “Is it really easy? Can I make it easier?”
Also, when you’re choosing a developer, you need to make sure that they’re doing a good job making sure that your website is built correctly and it is like W3C compliant. That it’s compliant with all the web standards, it’s going to be really important. You need to do this in order to make sure that your site is searchable by search engines.
Also, what you need to do and what you need to be thinking of at the very beginning stages of your website is copy or what you want to do is you want to make an entire lists of everything you can possibly think of to—that would describe your business. Once you have these lists, I have some tools at the bottom of the screen that are going to help you find which keywords are going to drive the most traffic your site.
Keywords are really important, not only will they help your search engine find your site, but they’re going to engage your visitors. So, what you want to do is build your copy around keywords.
Okay, next is picture. Images are great way of showing your people what you mean. Unfortunately, search engines can’t tell what pictures are unless you tell them, and that’s why it’s important to use all tags. You’re going to want to insert some keywords into your all tags. You don’t want to stuff your keywords in there. You don’t want to be like baby boy and gets baby blanket, baby blanket, baby blankets. You’re only going to want to put baby blankets once if it’s descriptive for what’s on the page. That’s going to help the search engines find your website more easily, and you’ll be able to describe to your costumers exactly what you mean.
Video is going to huge in the upcoming year. A Google is working on algorithms that are going to be able to search video for content which is going to be incredible. If you don’t have video content on your website, you need to start now. Video can help you sell to your clients more effectively, relate to people. It allows you to save things in a way that you can’t do with text. 25% of all searches happen on YouTube. You can get ahead of your competitors by creating video content uploading it to YouTube and then marketing it, making it, making more accessible, more relevant. Video is going to be huge in the upcoming year. I’m going to have some links at the bottom here as well for video content, ways that you can use it, some other resources and people that you can get a hold off.
So, what you need to do is you need to have a plan of what you’re going to do before you start. Don’t be looking at like, why are people coming to my website start early, start in the very beginning stages and think about keywords, think about content as far as words go, your copy, your pictures and your video. You need to be thinking about those things in the very beginning stages of your website. Do your market research, test before you go out into the world and spend a lot of money and waste a lot of time. Doing these things is going to help quite a bit.
If you need some help, I’ve got a lot of resources at the bottom of this website, this blog post, and we’ll be happy to help you with any questions that you have.
