SIRIUS XM Radio Premium iPhone App Review
Satellite Radio was and is still a very popular way for people to receive their audio content in great quality and without commercials. Looking to jump into the iPhone market with their already prominent collection of news, sports, music and comedy stations, Sirius XM came out with their iPhone application that allows subscribers to their service to listen to their programs right on their device.
Everything that users love is included in this package from live performances to artist-specific channels. Well, not everything. Already there are complaints that one of the most loved channels offered in the subscription, Howard Stern, is not actually available. This was the first indicator as to what might be wrong with this application.
For those of you not aware of how this works, the application is free, but you have to pay a monthly subscription in order to get these channels. For a premium account, there is even the problem of the company charging you $3.00 more on top of the regular monthly fees just so users can play content on their devices. Users can purchase the music right from the app into their iTunes but this doesn't solve the issue of price.
Overall, the Sirius XM app seems free and happy at first but once you realize it's missing some crucial content that is offered on normal satellite radio and the fact that they tacked $3.00 extra a month onto the subscription, it may be worth it to pass on.
Especially with all of the great free music streaming apps in the App Store, the only serious satellite subscribers will even want to look into this app. It has some great content, but the price being paid for a smaller selection of content is just not worth it in my opinion. Of course all this could change in an update, but as for right now, I'm passing on it.
