Welcome to our sparkling new Second Life blog. As you can see, it’s divided into several channels and there might be a lot to give up with. I hope that is true in times to come. You can easily subscribe to the blogs front page overview by clicking this link. And it gives you this link here which you can copy or paste into any of your feed viewers or I am on the Firefox browser, so I can choose to Subscribe Now. This keeps you apprised of when there are new posts.
If you fill still that that would be too much to keep up with, we’ve made it so you can subscribe to one or more specific channels of interest. Here is how you do that. So it says, ‘Welcome guest.’ You don’t want to be guest, you want to Login with your standard; your usual Second Life name and password. The same one you use for the in world experience, click Login and it’s secure. Just give that a few seconds.
And now click on a channel. So say, Community. And then let’s go down a bit where you will see Notifications. You can view Feeds. Note this standard orange RSS icon. You can click through and learn more about RSS if you are not already familiar with this wonderful time saver. Some of these are more useful than other some of them in time. It will become relevant or not really active right now. But right here, just a blog post from the Community section.
Okay, now let’s go back and note that if you prefer email; email is very standard; then you can click Receive email notifications. And oh, it just tells you that. It gives you that message. It’s that simple.
What you can also do, you can do to a Sub-channel like Tips and Tricks where I blog with my duck team homes and note again that you can receive notifications for a specific Sub-channel. You have breadcrumb navigation here. So if anytime you want to get back to the root, just click this.
If you like to see your list of email notifications, we do have a way to do that and these blogs are still hat off the press so to speak. So we hope to make it easier in the near future but presently as I say this, you can go to blogs.secondlife.com and replace this part here; just remove that; with people/ and enter your Second Life name with a period between the first and last names. So Torley.Olmstead while you’re logged in. Press Enter here.
And then, right under Email Notifications tab is where you will see the list. So you can go ahead and you can filter what you like to see and if you want to remove a selected notification, click a box and then check this.
And after you’re done tweaking your email notifications, you can go to Profile and then click Edit preferences to change your general Email notifications preferences. Like for instance, if you feel that you are getting spammed too much by too many comments on a blog post you’ve commented on, you can say ‘No’ to that, opt out and Save.
One thing nice to know from Linden Lab employees perspective if you were wondering, when you leave a comment on one of our blog post, we get auto notified of this via email. So, I see something like this and then I can click through and I can reply in kind.
Once you have this setup in your email box or feed reader like I use Google Reader but there are many choices out there, you will see the post begin to come in. Like right here, Official Second Life Blog and I can click through and I will be informed when there are new posts.
