The STS Turbo System - Review - part 5 of 5
Male: Let's talk about a little bit of tuning. You know typically when
you—at least with other people’s kids, you have turbo charger or a
simple charger and then you have to go toss the car on a dyno and
you have to work on tuning. And with gas cars, you have timing
and air flow ratios, if you have to worry about. What is it like
tuning this for kind of your average guy? You know nowadays a
lot people want to do it themselves. They don’t want to take it to a
shop. They want to go in there garage and do it themselves.
Male: Tune in and timing and air flow ratio ups are the good old days.
You know, I mean now you’ve got electronic trolley and torque
management. You have got all these safety things that are built in
from factory to keep these motors from blowing up if anything
goes wrong. And one of those things as if somebody puts a turbo
on it. So, most cars now, they should put a turbo on it. You won’t
make it out at the parking lot without throwing it and left out. So a
lot of tuning that has to be done and a lot of it is a lot more than
just map at the time, mapping up the fuel. That tempts to
sometimes being the easy part.
We basically work with our customers. They can buy the tuning
from us, we’ve we do a lot of development, tune in which is a lot
different than which only happens with just your average dyno
tuner guy. They are more concern about, okay, we just going to
check engine line on, going to make it power and is it not going to
blow up. Is there any weird drivability problems? So if they’ve got
those four, it’s done and it’s out of there. We spent—just because
we’re doing the same application onto them, we can afford to
spend a lot of time on making sure that all the tank stuff is right
and it's done as if GM or whoever was building this car would
have tuned it from the factory.
So, a lot of extra time goes into that. That’s what people get when
they buy a car tuning, some of that expertise and some of that
experience that we’ve went a lot of hours. That’s one thing I do a
lot here. It's a lot of the development, maintaining and working
with the customers.
So then we typically will send them, we use the jobs for—a lot and
so we’ll send them, the—. They take a read off their factory then
they email it to us, get in there. We make it a turbo tune, we email
back. They throw it on the car. Then we’ve got some feedback
forms and they can read the data off the—. They can go do some
drive cycles, fill up the forms, and email me back the forms. I
adjust the tune. Send them a new tune. They go through that
process around and around a couple times. And it’s just like if have
the car here—as long as I give you a good feedback.
So I may not put a really nice tune and a lot of times it’s a lot
better than what they will get if they take it to a custom tuner that
maybe, he’s tuned a few turbo cars but I’ve seen thousands of
them. It's just that experienced every tune it shows.
Male: You know reading on the internet and talking to people that had us
the S Turbo systems on their cars, I hear a lot about customer
service. Everybody seems to know the squires by name or any of
the other people here by name. What do you do to have such great
customer service?
Male: Well, you know the customer service is the one thing that separate
us from some of our bigger competitors. I've tried you know
because my name is on the building. I've tried to saying in all that,
I still get people to call my cellphone number because they find
some old flyers or somebody gave them and it's got my cell phone
number on it. That’s the customer service that we started with was
when you called STS, you call my cellphone number and you went
right to the top. And of course there are only a couple of us back
then. But yes, I handle all the tech calls. I handle any phone call
and pretty much answer the phone. So we’ve gotten bigger.
It's obviously I'm a little harder to get a hold of and I've trained
some guys to take care of people the way that I would want them
taken care of that. If they don’t, they hear it from me. And a lot of
people out there still know me from the early days and have a
relationship with me and they’ll call me and say you know, what
your guy didn’t take care of me, he didn’t call me back. I said well,
answer like then 20 minutes. I’ll go ahead and call you.
You know, they just to expect a little more. Some of the guys have
been with us for six years. But the new guys are coming along
now. They’re easy. I'm really happy with customer service
compared to some of our competitors where you can get out on
hold indefinitely. And we’re still small enough, our every customer
is really important to us and though I make sure that’s you know,
there are out there saying out, yeah STS is the best. Customer
service, it's one way that we can make sure we can—.
Male: Well, you guys have been doing some incredible stuff and we got
to ride in a Corvette and we hope to see some more.
