Female: Welcome to LeGourmet.TV today we at the tattoo rock part on Toronto for the anterior launch of “Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum” and we have Caroline who is the manager of Spice Rum here on Toronto. So it’s a unique bottle there’s a hula girl in the front. Now tell me how this Sailor Jerry and Honolulu are connected.
Caroline: It’s actually a fantastic story behind Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum. Sailor Jerry is actually a real person, the name is Norman Collins but he is known as sailor Norman Collins Jerry or Norman Sailor Jerry Collins. Now he owns the tattoo shop based in Honolulu and what happened is that he went over to Asia to learn the art of tattooing and came back to the U.S. and he opened up his own shop.
During the war sailors used to come in and he would tattoo all these amazing images of anchors or girls but they’re all the original pin-ups.
Female: The very classic style of tattooing.
Caroline: Of the sailor were very, I guess loyal sail gory but it’s not only when explained that tattooing he also had his own recipe for rum.
Female: Uh-huh, now what did he use the rum for?
Caroline: Personal consumptions.
Female: Okay.
Caroline: Personal consumption.
Female: It wasn’t to help him along with their tattooing.
Caroline: Perhaps.
Female: Not him but perhaps the sailors.
Caroline: Perhaps, but the Sailor Jerry’s Spiced Rum is the original spiced rum it’s a recipe that was found in Sailor Jerry’s belonging with all of his flashes, flashes already out wind or the designs of the tattoos that you would play fun on someone’s arm before you start tattooing a person. And it come across all this different recipes and there was spiced rum recipe so someone thought “Okay, we’re going to actually try this out it sound pretty amazing” and so it’s the only Jerry Rum that with born from that and it was that too good for product not to share with everyone else.
Were actually lucky that they didn’t keep it for themselves and the spices that are in the Sailor Jerry Rum are cinnamon, ginger, clove, vanilla and lime. Yeah, confusion of this five different spices honestly make a fantastic rum that is very, very smooth and very versatile as well. You can use it for a lot of different cocktails that you can enjoy it on the rocks.
Female: So it’s good for zipping and it’s good for mixing.
Caroline: Both, yeah.
Female: All right Caroline we’ve been talking about Sailor Jerry and we’ve been talking about the spice is good; I think maybe it’s time to give it a try.
Caroline: Now it’s time to give it a try.
Female: Yeah, I think it’s time to give it try.
Caroline: Yeah, let’s do it. We’re going to try it straight first.
Female: Okay.
Caroline: It is 92 proof so its 46% alcohol it is an over proof product but I can guarantee you when you try it.
Female: Yeah, it’s so smooth.
Caroline: It’s so smooth.
Female: All right.
Caroline: You would never guess it to be 46%. So we just pour a little bit on the rocks there just to do it on the rocks for me, they looked beautiful. You can really pick up the vanilla tones in it and the cloves as well.
Female: And then I’m tempted to have a taste of it as well.
Caroline: Yeah.
Female: I’ve got anxious, I got all excited, it does have a great smell and it is quite smooth isn’t? I can really taste the vanilla in there it’s quite fun.
Caroline: Yeah, its always, if you have been thinking very smooth and there’s happened to be a hint of a cherry in it as well but like I said all the spices combined together it just makes this product so smooth and so easy to drink. Really whether it’s on the rocks or we clean it up.
Female: Which, runs it has a notice I was looking at it, you’ve got some recipes on here. Is there something around we can maybe whip us up a couple of this, you think you can.
Caroline: I think I can arrange that, I will call my friend Emily over and she can pop-up a few cocktail.
Female: All right then that’s sounds great.
