We’re introducing the Samsung Omnia Pro B7610 in this review. This is a site slider business smart phone equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard 3.5-inch amulet screen, five megapixel camera, DivX and XviD support and the set of features characteristic of high-end devices such as WiFi, 3G, GPS, etcetera.
The operating system is Windows Mobile 6.1 professional but it is heavily personalized with the manufacturers—interface. First, let’s take a look at the back panel because it is really spectacular. It features quite nice red, white reflecting—and look similarly to the Samsung jets back cover. It’s really cool isn’t it? And this is the five-megapixel camera, the 3.5-inch amulet, touch sensitive screen, YouTube access resistive technology and comes with an awesome resolution of 480x800 pixels. Sent and End buttons are just below along QWERTY key that takes you to the main menu—for a while calls up to already known and beautifully looking task manager. That features active icons similarly to the Palm Pre. Now, here is the QWERTY keyboard.
Unlike the Touch Pro2, the phone display cannot be tilted at an angle. As you can see, all buttons are relatively latched and arranged in four rows. That is not into—your fans on both sides of the phone aside from the button used to switch between the work and live profiles. We’ll show you the function in a short while.
The home screen features typical Samsung widgets and there are three separate pages for you to place them. However, the major changes are not to be seen when you open the different menus and tabs. Touchwiz 2 alters not only the home screen and several minor things but penetrates the operating system in-depth. There are novelty features almost everywhere which are better looking, more finger use friendly alternatives to the standard app so that come with the operating system.
Samsung’s touch is evident in the phone contact, calendar, messages, alarms and file manager as well—the personalization of some of the interface elements doesn’t ad to functionality but changes the—and makes icons appeal larger so they’re comfier to use. Pressing the Start menu key takes you to a main menu that looks entirely different and offers distinctly dissimilar options. It now shows up to 10 pages and each of them can host no more than 12 shortcuts to applications of your own choosing. As a whole, Touchwiz 2 creates the impression you’re using some other handset and other Windows Mobile powered one. We like that.
The working live button is used to switch between your personal and profiles, all available on screen fields can be rearranged, removed, or more of them can be added to your own taste. Open into slider switches the phone to landscape and the composer menu pops up automatically. It features shortcuts to your messages, emails, calendar, notes and phone searches.
The device supports a five megapixel auto-focus camera with flash that delivers enough functionality for a phone like this. You also have the option to capture videos at a resolution not exceeding VGA or in other words 640x480 pixels. These snapshots taken with the prototype can be found in the preview of the phone on all web site and the Omnia Pro can be used not only as a business device but it is a multimedia player as well. Thanks to the touch player that unifies al available audio and video content.
It is a good thing that there are special horizontal view modes. Samsung seems to have done their job perfectly and the personalization pack does a way with typical shortcomings of the standard Windows Mobile Interface. We believe Samsung has managed to take it to another level and the Omnia Pro B7610 stands a good chance of making it to the top. Please read our text review on phonearena.com if you want to know more about the device.
