Female: All right, so were here at the Chilean Wine Festival, here with Fernando and he’s going to give us a little bit of a random on the Santa Carolina brand. I’m a big fan of Chilean Wine so part of the reason is usually I’m here to do a lot of drinking. So I mean you’ve got us quite a bit of wine here, maybe you can give us a little random of all you’ve got laid out and what’s going on in the LCBO and what wines which are we really we should be watching out for?
Fernando: Well basically what we have here on our booth, is a pretty good selection of what’s going on now in the show for Santa Carolina and it’s always been Chile. First of all we have our reserva range, it’s where looking around drove 95 times as price one on the show.
Female: Which is very important, yeah.
Fernando: I mean that Chile has been recognized last year for being really, really good value wines, so on the reserve at here what we have here are two wines, we have a beautiful sauvignon blanc2007 and a Carmenere Reserva 2007 both form Ravel Valley. Ravel Valley is pretty much in the middle section of Chile and a bit Southern from Santiago about a 100 miles.
Female: Is this where you’re from.
Fernando: Exactly and this sauvignon blancwhat’s new in this 1:04 that’s something that we started about 5 months ago and it goes really well with the trend you know especially with white wines. So it’s something that has really, really being accepted in the wine market very well.
Female: Sauvignon blanc.
Fernando: Sauvignon blanc, yeah, I mean generally speaking very easy, very crispy, very minerals in the repelled region. Raw ousters is the best match for it so, I’d really, really recommend that match for this. And this is the Carmenere, there’s a lot of story about Carmenere but just to make it really, really quick a brief story about it. It’s the last great from the Bordeaux area. So now we have it in Chile but we didn’t know we have it in Chile, it was a 100 years of lost with melough within the venues. So that’s why our Carmenere was not known before and the quality for merlough was not really good because it has a low and ripened Carmenere and merlough you pick it up very early in the season and come in here really late.
Female: That’s good to know, so people weren’t actually getting the full potential out of what they thought was more low they were harvesting and like for a low grade—
Fernando: Exactly, were sort of a blend with Merlough, Carmenere. So now we have this beauty which actually it’s looking towards to be a 2:09 you know such as 2:11 etc, etc, etc. and this is low price it was like about $12.95 as well do the Sauvignon blanc.
Female: It’s a steal for $12 or $13.
Fernando: Great wine.
Female: That’s crazy.
Fernando: Good much for Carmenere I have to say Thai food, if it was Carmenere it’s particularity is that it has a little spice, so with Thai food it goes great, a very good match.
Female: And a little bit of the acidity of the wine have to be cut them in fattiness and fragrant that’s great.
Fernando: Exactly, I’m barely looking here on the Baricca’s Selection so now were taking a little step up.
Female: So this is the actually rum.
Fernando: Yes.
Female: This is not the Carmenere with us.
Fernando: This is the real, the real Marlow and the Marlow actually it’s a 95% Marlow 3% petit mordough and 2% petit sera and a little splash of vinier.
Female: Wow.
Fernando: Which, in Chile you know it’s very common were planting a little bit of --
Female: 1% vinier.
Fernando: Yeah, it’s just a splash to refresh it and give it a little, a little touch in it so as what we’ve said at this level of wines I mean 100% of Marlow what’s that, you know, it’s like that’s this when you make. You know, I mean like, I mean it’s like a recipe, you know it can mint you up, a little bit of pepper, a little bit of salt and you now etc, etc, etc.
Female: That’s right very authentic in the wine making style.
Fernando: Exactly, this gentleman is 12 months aged in French oak barrel which is mostly 80% second hand barrel to a 20% brand new. Because the most important thing is to not hide the personality of the wine you just barreled. And so keep it you know very, very, very no apparent and this Marlow it’s a new release in vintages for the month of September and it retailes at $14.95.
Female: So it’s a reserve as well and it’s $14.95.
Fernando: It’s a grand reserve.
Female: It’s a grand reserve for $14.95.
Fernando: Once on the above, yeah, on top of this.
Female: I don’t know if I can afford that. I mean I have to take a few bottles home.
Fernando: It’s really nice you know, it’s really, really, it’s very nice and very smooth. And the other wine also it’s a release that were having now in September on the Carmenere same branch Baricca’s Selections so this is a grand reserva and this is actually 97% Carmenere and it has 3% mortivila just a little touch of moverde. Which again you know makes it a little bit more interesting 12 months in French barrel.
Female: It’s a wine makers wine, it’s kind of what you’re saying aside from this.
Fernando: Exactly.
Female: There are wine maker, wine in a lot of place but they’re wine maker just mixes a whole bunch of grapes together and million enjoys with the combination of it.
Fernando: And don’t have, we have realized everything is so hard about Carmenere in this days. Everyone who wants to try a Carmenere everyone who wants to try a Marlow I mean people realized they are Carmenere you know they’re Marlow but this new great that are coming into the market is really something exciting.
Female: Right.
Fernando: That people would really feels you know, I mean reflect to it.
Female: Well it ‘s not your regular you know cherdeneight.
Fernando: Exactly.
Female: But tell them to, they sort of built their relationship with those very recitals, branching out and trying something new is such that a great way and really experience and area’s showcase wine exactly it’s a flag shape.
Fernando: Right and this is a good way to learn about Chile as well on the same time.
Female: Or you can go to Chile.
Fernando: Oh, yeah, well.
Female: Visit Fernando down there.
Fernando: Well give them a free ticket, no I’m just kidding.
