Cocktail Spirit
Hendrick’s Gin

The Satan’s Whiskers, a wonderful gin cocktail for introducing people to gin who may not like it normally.
Welcome to Cocktail Spirit of Smallscreen Network, I’m your host Robert Hess. Now, early on when I was getting in the cocktails, I run across this one drink called the Satan’s Whiskers. It was on a website being run by Paul Harrington who did HotWired's cocktails side and eventually came out with a book Cocktail: The Drinks Bible for the 21st Century.
Unfortunate the books been out of print for quite sometime. But it’s one of my treasured books in my collection because it has a lot of great knowledge in a cocktail recipes in it but also what a great memories because I learned an awful lot of my beginnings about cocktails from this book.
And the same Whiskers really captured my attention because of an ingredient it had in it, orange bitters. This is the first cocktail I run across requiring orange bitters as ingredient and for the longest time I couldn’t ever make it properly because I couldn’t find orange bitters. Now, we have products like in the store orange bitters we can use and finally I’ll make this cocktail properly.
To a simple old cocktail with many ingredients we’re going to use three quarters an ounce of gin, I’m going to use Hendricks’s Gin, three quarters an ounce of sweet vermouth, three quarters an ounce of dry vermouth a half ounce of orange juice, a half ounce of Grand Marnier and the dash or two of orange bitters. Now we’re going to shake this cocktail up, I was shaking because there is less orange juice in it being a cloudy ingredient there is nothing we can do to make this turn out clear so and it goes.
Strain that into our cocktail glass and there we have the Satan’s Whisker’s Cocktail.
