Hello again! Today, what we're going to do is we're going to talk about a subject called sciatica, which is basically talking about irritation or pressure on the sciatic nerve. Now the sciatic nerve is a nerve that's located in your lower back, end part of your sacrum area which is what your tailbone. There is a group of nerves that come together that formed a large nerve that's about the size of your thumb called the sciatic nerve.
Now when there is a pressure on that sciatic nerve, it can cause what's called sciatica, which just means inflammation of the sciatic nerve. Now the sciatic nerve travels from your lower back, travels all the way down from your hip, down your back of your leg, down into your calf and all the way down into your feet or big toe actually.
So what sciatic basically means or what it is, is irritation of that nerve. And here, what we do is, we try to figure out what's causing that irritation and see if we can actually take the pressure off the nerve. A lot of times what happens is this.
This is what the lower back looks like. The nerves actually exit on the back part of the spine through that little hole. This is the front part of this spine; this is the vertebra and the disk. So the nerve actually comes out here. When everything is properly positioned, these nerves should be fine and the nerve should work as you can see with the flashing light.
Now what can happen though is through trauma, stress, or weakness, these vertebras kind of get shifted out of their proper position. When it does that, it can put pressure on this nerve, causing the nerve to not work right and it can cause irritation and pressure on that nerve. It can cause that pain of like sciatica for example, if it's in your lower back.
