Seal Interview
Audra Lowe: So our next guest has been called one of the luckiest men in the world. He’s married to super model Heidi Klum. He has a beautiful family and a thriving music career. His passion for his music is evident and his new album called “Commitments”. Ladies and gentlemen Seal is here, good to have you here.
Seal: Good to be here.
Audra Lowe: I know we’re really joking a little bit.
Seal: That was very well read.
Audra Lowe: Yeah, thank you very much. We were joking earlier that you like to read in the teleprompter, right?
Seal: Well, I never tried it before and I just go, I wanted to have a go with that to see if I can that from dinner.
Audra Lowe: We’ll give you pop quiz at the end.
Seal: I can’t do this as what you just did it.
Audra Lowe: Well, thank you very much it’s a compliment. I can’t think as well as you can. Let’s talk about your album; this is your sixth album, right?
Seal: Six studio album.
Audra Lowe: Six studio album, okay.
Seal: So, well actually I did a couple of greatest hits and a couple of songs. I did a Soul album with David Foster just before which is a lot of fun.
Audra Lowe: And you like the --
Seal: This is the sixth original material album.
Audra Lowe: Really, wow. Long time now David Foster and you guys teamed up again this time around the legendary producer and I was looking into the video. It looked like you have so much fun, you’re laughing. You are joking in there. Was it to good putting this album together?
Seal: Yeah, I mean you know one of the great things about David, I mean the pop from all the -- he had many great attributes that you hear he has. And is the fact that he’s so really inspirational person. So and those people are always really great. First of all, they’re very rare but when you do find them, they’re really good to be allowed.
Audra Lowe: Well see I’m glad you said that because he said these maybe your best work yet. Do you agree with him?
Seal: I think so. I mean I think it’s my most consistent and you know that’s always something I strive for when making an album is to be consistent across an album because I guess that’s what really makes it an album as oppose to kind of a collection of songs.
Audra Lowe: Exactly, and speaking of being consistent, you’re consistently talk about like family, love, commitment in this album, how much influence did Heidi and your relationship have on this album?
Seal: Well, I think you know from any kind of sing a songwriter’s point of view, you write about the things that affect you and how you see the world and I think if you look at my life over the last seven years, I’m married to Heidi. I have an incredible family so obviously, that’s going to have some kind of bearing not only what I write about but, how I write about so I see the world etcetera.
Audra Lowe: Exactly. Speaking of how you see the world, the world just gets to see your wife quite a bit.
Seal: They do.
Audra Lowe: Two obviously very popular people married to one another, I’ll ask you this question get rid of my nose. When you see her on the runway and all these men are staring at her and she sees you up there on stage and all these women are screaming for you? Do either of you get in the jealousy. Did you get upset? Have you ever had the glow after a fan and say, “Back off, that’s my wife?”
Seal: No, no, because I mean first of all, we actually don’t take it that seriously and we’re both very fortunate to kind of be able to do the jobs that we do. But then such is a nature of artists. We are in the public eye and my wife is very attractive, very sexy woman.
Audra Lowe: She is. But you know I think it keeps in body shape, it’s a definitely long way.
Seal: She does, oh yeah. I would master that and so if you know all the adoration that she gets from male fans and female fans I think that’s I just look it around and this is my girl.
Audra Lowe: And you are going home with her at the end of the night right so that’s all you have to say.
Seal: So far.
Audra Lowe: The video was is for Secrets that you and Heidi were in, you have been naked in the video, and there was little controversy.
Seal: Naked.
Audra Lowe: Naked like a really naked.
Seal: Really, really naked.
Audra Lowe: Really, really naked, what made you decide to do something like that?
Seal: I think because it’s more of a celebration of the love we have for one another and also that was something that it was kind of Heidi’s idea. She said, “Well,” while we’re young kind of thing and also the song Secret is a lot of it or a section of it is about how our first daughter Lenie. Also, how we came together but she was very pretty much like a catalyst for that. And so I guess we wanted to make something for her that she will see when she gets all this one. Despite kind of being in the slightly less than orthodox family, she’ll have something of she’ll look at her --
Audra Lowe: Back at that.
Seal: And she’ll go out and you know my parents are really, really love it and still do love each other.
Audra Lowe: And speaking of still loving each other you renew your vows every year, right? Some people would die if they have to do and look at the person then everything single year again is we respond to you. Do you notice something different every single time? Is it a different feeling every time that you renew your vows?
Seal: It is actually. It is for your sake because it is that you wouldn’t think so but it is a different feeling every time. I mean I guess you just kind of feel if that’s at all possible. You feel that much closer to the person. Because they it’s a funny thing you know because marriage is an institution and you go.
Something we going to do and for hopefully it’s something that you really enjoy but then every time that you kind of reaffirm the whole institution of marriage by saying your vows again it does do something that it kind of refocuses you. It sets you if you kind of lose hope at the time but not what we do but if you do it kind of just reminds you of – here’s how best to describe it.
A very close friend of mine, a guy called Bob Pinto. He said to me, you know when and he’s been married for about 25, 30 years. He said on his wedding day his father came into the house, right and put a picture of Bob and his wife in the bedroom, and he said and he ask him, “What are you doing that for?” He said, “This is going to be times where you go.”
A way you go up and down in the relationship and said all I wanted you to do is before you say what you’re going to say go upstairs, take a deep breath and go upstairs and look at that picture and you said remember the person that you married. And not only that and this as importantly remember the person that she married and then say what you have to say.
Audra Lowe: Wow that is--
Seal: And so to answer your question that’s kind of what renew our vows does. It kind of reminds us of who we were when we first came and we waited.
Audra Lowe: Now you did it and why you did it, do you find if you’re a marriage counselor pretty good. Do people come to you for marriage advice and asking the questions about it?
Seal: Well, I don’t profess to be able to give any kind because trust me we are far from perfect.
Audra Lowe: Now but you just did a really good job and we get the information.
Seal: I mean that’s what something to get you told me but that’s kind of that was one of the best pieces of advice however. But I think it’s also true when you renew your vows a months you get the same effect.
Audra Lowe: Exactly, oh my God. Do you need to take a class, a workshop for a lot of men out there because you know the women you always hear them talking about that and I heard you had a reality show coming out, you and Heidi have no--
Seal No, it’s not a reality show. It’s a show that basically does because I suppose we’re talking about and we often get asked about this whole concept of us, renewing our vows and how amazing it must be. We figured well wouldn’t it be nice if we went around America and found ordinary couples with extraordinary stories who perhaps got married at the time when they couldn’t already have the wedding of their dreams or may be it’s on the difficult test, circumstance or whatever.
Wouldn’t be nice to find those couples and give them the opportunity to have the dream wedding much in the same that Heidi and I do every year. I mean honestly the one thing that you got to know about my wife is that she throws a fantastic party.
Audra Lowe: Does she, really?
Seal: Yeah, she’s incredible and you know the weddings are always like really glamorous. That it’s always with our closest friends, wouldn’t it be nice to give each couple who got the task to do that, the wedding and inventories. And so it’s not the reality show they told us, it’s not as been marriage counseling.
Audra Lowe: No this is the real deal right.
Seal: It’s more about the couples and their lives.
Audra Lowe: So will you come back and talked about that too.
Seal: I would love to.
Audra Lowe: You can come and tell me about some air, sun that is Thursday anything. You can talk about anything on the show. All right good to have you here.
Seal: Awesome, that will do, thank you.
Audra Lowe: Thank you so much congratulations
Seal: Thank you.
Audra Lowe: Oh, write that down baby. Make sure to pick up Seal’s new album. It’s called Commitment and it’s available now. Thank you so much. We appreciate it.
