Weekly Application and Tech Feature
Hello everyone and thank you for tuning in to Inside Geek Canada. My name is Evan Theis and today we are going to talked about searching and optimization and user optimization. Now, it is going to be a two part video, you are going to see the first part now and then the next part a week from today on the next Monday. It is going to be all about searching optimization today so basically, what is searching and optimization and what is user optimization? In my opinion, they are kind of one and the same but I give more toward user optimization because in that process, you are helping you and your users as well as getting the search engines index you.
So when you go to search engine like Google and you look up for something say shoes and then you get relevant content to what you are looking for. Now, let us create but the problem is, if the site is not also user optimized, you might go the slinky and say this might is something I am looking for. You go there and all you know is it is either a spam or there is something, maybe one little article that picked up and it is not very good so you want to add user optimization at the core because this is helping people find their own direction on the site, find what they are looking for easily and effectively.
So, I am just going to show you some of the techniques I have implemented, I am pretty near to the whole SQL thing but I am trying some techniques on my website and get some decent results so I want to share those with you, just to see how your website can improve the ranking and their user optimization. So, let us go take a look.
All right, so around the Inside Geed Canada website here, I am going to show you some of the things I have implemented to help me with my SCO practices. First, that you want to do if you just started a new website, it is a good chance that your website has not yet been indexed by searching. So what are your going to do is submit to the major search engines like Google and Yahoo and you know, ask and have settle the big ones as well as you want to submit to some open directories that are more human powered and that you will be getting in a more directed traffic and people as well as spam sites on this kind of searches so you will get hits from those ones as well.
Now, the first thing I want to talk about is content and more specifically having unique content on your website. This is a goldmine for Google, for Yahoo, any search engines because that is where they looking for. In effect they want users to build the find, useful things on other people’s websites that having been really seen before so if you look at my website here. For every video that I do, I have unique content and unique articles that I completely write myself so they are all unique here and Google notices this and any other search engine would as well. That I have been updating content regularly and they scan my website and therefore, they make me hired because I have unique content that is not in multiple places.
This also relates to duplicate content so you would be careful in the way of having duplicate content on your website or on multiple websites. You are definitely going to have dark content only on one website. If you have on to many others, you probably going to get rank lower on the search engines. Another thing to look out for, just show you an example here, as for if I go to insidegeek.ca but I do not use the www dot and click enter, it will automatically go to the www dot and this is both good for user because there is only one central location as well as the search engines, there are not seeing multiple directories.
Now search engine probably, what it really care too much about this but it is good for the user. Also keep this in mind, if you have other URL’s on your websites and there are different places like if you have content management system, it is a good chance if you have two URL’s that go to the same content so one of those URL’s, you are go
