Segway X2 - Tech Review

Mike Agerbo: Well as you probably know I love all sorts of technology; transportation technology is one of them. This is Segway. Some might call it a scooter. Some might call it pedestrian mover. This is our second generation. We’ve shown this on the show before. This one is kind of neat because it’s more of a rugged model in outdoors model. You can see it’s got the outdoor tires on. It’s called their X2 model and you can also get turf tires as well if you want to use something like this one on a gold course Lindsay Smith: And they go really fast, go Mike! Mike Agerbo: Give them a shot. There are all sorts of different business applications for these people movers now as well. So you can imagine places like warehouses. If you want to get around on a big warehouse ideal, if you’ve even heard of a chicken farmer for example, he has to get around a 40-acre farm; he was able to use one of these little guys. Even security guards too are using them. They are really kind of fun to ride. It’s an interesting vehicle. A lot of people when they look at this; think that you know, it’s really easy to fall off. You know if you lean too far forwards and that is how you make a move by leaning, you know. Will you fall off? Well no, it won’t let you. You can see here there is no way for me to actually fall off unless I jump up or if I get pushed off by my friendly co-host here. You know as far as speeds, they go about 20km/h. Well you do a little tour around here. Lindsay Smith: Yes because—you want to get rid of me again? Yeah? Okay. Off I go. Mike Agerbo: Yeah, you get out of here. And you know distance. They can go for about 30km as far as the battery life. They are using a lithium ion battery in these little guys and to simply charge them, you get the power cord and you just plug it into a wall outlet, it’s that easy. And— Lindsay Smith: I find it pretty easy to stir with it going back and forth like that, like you can get the hang of it pretty quickly. Mike Agerbo: And you’re in hills. Lindsay Smith: And I am wearing hills. Mike Agerbo: Which is a highly appropriate choice of shoes for today. Lindsay Smith: Well you know you got to go out in style. I needed something to match the beautiful helmet. Mike Agerbo: So these things, they go for about for about $60-500. It might seem like a lot but when you compare to other types of vehicles, so for example maybe a gold cart might be comparable, they are in the same price range and you know what?
