Seiko SLP 450 Label Printer Review
Tiffany Young: Hi there and welcome to neo-fight.tv, the technology review with two points of view. My name is Tiffany Young.
Ben Freedman: And I’m Ben Freedman. And today is Wednesday July the 12th, and.
Tiffany Young: Beautiful Day.
Ben Freedman: It’s a beautiful day and this is beautiful little product although, you know what? I was thinking about this.
Tiffany Young: It’s a beautiful product.
Ben Freedman: It’s a beautiful product, I was thinking about this.
Tiffany Young: It’s kinda boring looking at it.
Ben Freedman: Well, I was gonna say, do you remember like in high school, you know there are some kids they’re a lot of fun and there are other kids kind of boring and yet it’s the boring ones, that you know if you all ever did is hang-out with the guys who got drunk
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: And all that stuff, later on.
Tiffany Young: There, there it rocks, yeah.
Ben Freedman: Yeah. The boring ones are your rocks and the guys that when you really need the help and you know your gonna cram for a test.
Tiffany Young: And this has to do with, this how?
Ben Freedman: Well, I got to tell you; this is the Seiko SLP which means Smart Label Printer, SLP 450 label printer. And people are saying how the heck are they gonna spend 5 minute talking about the label printer. In fact, I was one of those people thinking how in the heck I’m gonna spend 5 minutes talking about a label printer but I have to tell you, I have had one of these for a couple of years of earlier models that have come out.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: It is probably the thing I spend thinking the least about because you know until you need it, it’s not even there. And when you think about it and yet it is one of the most useful pieces of stock you can have in your desktop. In fact, if I have to pick my most useful product under $200, the label printer would be it.
Tiffany Young: I agree. If you ever noticed, you don’t realize what you’re missing until you have a Label Printer wouldn’t you agree?
Ben Freedman: That’s right, my wife was incomplete and then this completed me.
Tiffany Young: Because of the reason why I say that—
Ben Freedman: You complete me.
Tiffany Young: Ben, is because when you go in to print, okay, when you talk about Christmas cards, any got time whatever have a priority or do anything where you need to print or Business Mailings. Whatever you know whatever you’re using it for baby showers all kinds of stuff.
Ben Freedman: Have you ever done that little dance where you try to feed the sheets under your printer that gets jammed up?
Tiffany Young: Not only that, you have to get the right template, you have to make sure you have the right labels to the right template. And at the time it takes is just to set it up, you have to turn on your computer, and if turn on your computer for this to by if you have to go Word and get through the program and then make sure every thing’s interface would outlook or whatever you know program you have to merge your addresses.
Ben Freedman: Plus, what if you want to print just one label?
Tiffany Young: Exactly, you get the whole page.
Ben Freedman: And then you’ve got a sheet of 30 and then you print one and then you take that off and then next time, you go to figure out, “Well, I don’t want to print in that spot. I’ve got to print on the next non-empty spot.”
Tiffany Young: Right. And you have to remember where that is in your sheet and makes sure that the sheets are fed the right way or—
Ben Freedman: Then you got to keep the sheet around as well. So you know, you’d like keep that sheet— we’ll edit that out. Keep the sheet around. Okay. So with this puppy, it hooks up your computer via USB, you install some software. Let me mention the software with a little buggy.
Tiffany Young: Yes it was.
Ben Freedman: You know, it crashed on me a couple of times but not bad just you know. A little bit buggy once that you figured out—not into the most intuitive thing in the world to get it working but it prints very fast, prints a multiple different wits of labels once you get it working and it doesn’t take make any —.
Tiffany Young: Once you do get it working. I didn’t have very much problem with that at all. I thought it was a really great addition to— and to tell you the truth, I never really thought about getting a label printer until I tried this and I’m absolutely sold on it.
Ben Freedman: It is one of those things—I think you’re right where until you have it, you don’t realize how useful—I could feed my labels into a—
Tiffany Young: It’s kinda like coffee until you ever drink it and never know you missed it.
Ben Freedman: Have you noticed there’s been a lot of time talking about coffee?
Tiffany Young: Hey Starbucks. Yeah I know.
Ben Freedman: On the show is in the last month.
Tiffany Young: Because people send us— they send us coffee.
Ben Freedman: That’s right.
Tiffany Young: All confused though.
Ben Freedman: I appreciate that. It is, it’s one of those things where you don’t realize what it is until you don’t have one and also you’ve—
Tiffany Young: (singing) You don’t know what you got until it’s gone.
Ben Freedman: So, this is a fast, it’s a little expensive, it’s $160 I think was the price which—
Tiffany Young: But it’s fast.
Ben Freedman: Now, consider you could buy an Inkjet Printer for like $50 or $60 and a bunch of labels so—
Tiffany Young: But then you have to feed it and—
Ben Freedman: That’s true.
Tiffany Young: It’s hungry all the time.
Ben Freedman: but it is much, much less expensive to buy this. But once you have this, I think there’s no going back.
Tiffany Young: Okay. So we recommend this folks. To wrap it up, we recommend— oh it’s I who recommend. Do you recommend?
Ben Freedman: I do.
Tiffany Young: You do? Okay. So, you think this model though is—
Ben Freedman: I like this model it’s fast, it’s small it don’t take much room on your desk.
Tiffany Young: Right. Yes. It is very small; it’s very lightweight too I might add.
Ben Freedman: Right.
Tiffany Young: One of the labels, you know how expensive the labels are?
Ben Freedman: Well, it depends on how wide you want. You can get like the thinner ones or you know $10 to $15 bucks and you get the wider ones. And bigger rolls are $30 or $40. You know, for sending out DVDs that I sent out, I used the big labels and I can put the return address on the top.
Tiffany Young: Which is nice?
Ben Freedman: So either turn the address on the top and the address on the bottom. That way I don’t have to put separate return sticky on the envelope.
Tiffany Young: That’s nice too, which is nice as well.
Ben Freedman: Which is nice. Anyway—
Tiffany Young: Well, I’m going to give this product four out of five on—It’s just, it’s small, it’s lightweight compact. You know how you feel about small, lightweight and compact.
Ben Freedman: So that’s why you like me because I’m lightweight and compact.
Tiffany Young: Yes Ben and yes. You’re not small, lightweight and compact. You can be if you want to.
Ben Freedman: And I’m going to give this product to five out of five. I've done a little it about—
Tiffany Young: Really?
Ben Freedman: Yeah.
Tiffany Young: Okay.
Ben Freedman: Other than being a little bit of buggy software, I think this is fantastic product and you know, I know what’s it like to be the boring—you know geeky,—geeky computer ones.
Tiffany Young: It’s so lightweight and compact—
Ben Freedman: Exactly. So, I give it a five out of five. So, that’sfour out of five for Tiffany, five out of five for me for this Seiko SLP450 Label Printer and that’s all the time we have for NEO-FIGHT.TV today. But if you can give us an extra 30 seconds, stay tuned and take a look at this.
Tiffany Young: Right
