We take on a painting project we want the best possible result right? That is why you should look for the best method for applying your paint. And, spend a little extra money for high quality products. Let us start with one of the most popular applicators, the brush. A bristle brush is more versatile than rollers and pads. It is easy to clean up and it allows you to apply a thinker coat, so you maybe able to get by for just one.
There are different types of brushes for different jobs. A stash brush is good for getting in corners and the square-end brush works best for flat surface. Also, take into account the object that you are painting and select a brush width that matches best.
Okay you want to get quality brush, but you do not know what to look for. You want flagged bristles. They allow for smother finish than this unflagged-end on disposable brushes. Also, look for multiple wood spacers. They create more paint reservoirs between rows to hold more paint, than single space for brushes. And, this piece here is called the feral and they hold the bristles in place. Make sure you get a brush with a reinforced feral, so the bristles do not fall out while you are painting.
One last thing about brushes they came with either natural or synthetic bristles. Generally, you want a natural bristles brush for applying all based paint and a synthetic bristle brush for latex paint. Buy a high quality brush. Take good care of it and in the long run, you will save money.
Now, a roller is an ideal choice, when you are covering a large area like a wall or ceiling. Look for roller pad that has a heavy uniform knob that does not shed a lot of limp. It should have doubled edges, so you do not leave beads on the edges. And, be sure it has a red in tube that would not break down when it gets wet. Roller pads are available with different naps. The smoother the surface the shorter the nap. If your painting is smooth walls or ceilings, a 3/8 inch nap is best. A semi-rough surface, such us concrete will require a half inch to 3-quarter inch naps. And, a rough surface, like brick may require a one to one in a quarter inch naps. And, the handle for the roller pad is just as important. A quality handle will have nylon bearing that spin easily. A solid frame that does not bend under pressure, a cage with at least 5 wires and a molded handled grip. Now, 9-inch roller is what you want for applying paint to walls and ceilings and an extension handle will make the job a little easier.
If you have a really big job ahead of you consider using a power roller, it will pump paint directly from the can through this tube with a squeeze of a trigger? In tighter areas, like around windows and doors, a 4 or 6-inch mini roller will be a better fit. Paint pads are another option for applying paint to smooth and lightly textured surfaces.
And lastly, there is the power sprayer it will apply paint faster than either r a roller or a brush, but it is better suited for outdoor projects than interior once. It is great for painting fences, garages or even ceiling bed. If you have to apply paint around tight spaces, tape off areas you do not want painted.
Those are some of the more common applicators to choose from. When applying a single color to a surface. There are also many decorative painting tools available that will help you achieve whatever painting technique you want. From simple spongy or ragging to creating so affect, there is a right tool for the job. Remember spend a little more and get good quality applicators you will get better results and you will be able to re-use your tool on the next project.
