Hello! I am Alan B. Densky and I'd like to welcome you to my series on hypnotherapy and NLP. My goals in this series are to entertain you and educate you about these modalities as well as to give you a set of tools that you can actually use to make rapid changes in your life and in your lifestyle.
This is Chapter Four in Hypnosis 101 series. In Chapter One, we discussed exactly what hypnosis is, and in Chapter Two, we discussed who can be hypnotized. In Chapter Three of the Hypnosis 101 series, I started to describe the most popular misconceptions about hypnosis. Today's topic is more of the misconceptions about Hypnosis.
A question that is often asked by people who are considering the use of hypnosis to improve their lives is, 'can the hypnotist control me?' No, hypnotist cannot make you do anything against your will. In Chapter Three, we discussed the fact that you are awake and aware of everything when you are in hypnosis, besides there is always an observing ego-state. Should the hypnotist make an offensive suggestion, this ego-state would reject that suggestion. You will probably emerge from the state of hypnosis, so nothing to worry about there.
Another common question is, 'can the hypnotist make me divulge all of my secrets?' You will not divulge any secrets under hypnosis unless you want to. The hypnotist does not have any control over the subject, quite the contrary the subject has more control of over himself since that this time he has better communication with his own unconscious mind. The subject can easily reject any suggestions the hypnotist makes, no matter how simple or complicated suggestion might be. The subject can open his eyes emerge from the state of hypnosis, and walk out of the room at anytime he chooses.
Must people tell the truth when in hypnosis? No, people can lie when in hypnosis. Do hypnotist have special powers and vibrations? This is a common misconception. The hypnotist does not have any special powers nor does he have any special vibrations with which to hypnotize you. Actually all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The hypnotist merely leads the subject into a state of hypnosis. In other words, the ability of hypnosis is in the subject. Why the people fail to reach their goals using hypnosis? Sometimes they do, and perhaps the greatest reason for the inability to reach one's goals through hypnosis is an inadequate amount of practice, where some hypnosis is concerned.
The greatest reason for the return of a symptom or 'relapse' is the premature discontinuance of hypnosis with the hypnotherapist or the hypnotherapy CDs. You see while self-hypnosis is important, it is generally the heterohypnosis with the hypnotherapist or the hypnotherapy CDs, which has the greatest impact upon the subconscious mind. This is because of the training and experience of the hypnotist versus the lack of training and experience of the client.
Some people are penny-wise and pound-foolish. They mentally set an amount of time, or money that they are willing to spend for help. And then they prematurely discontinue their sessions because, 'I can't afford it.' Or, 'I didn't lose 50 Lbs. in two days.' Or they didn't do some other totally unrealistic goal. Or 'I don't have the time to listen.'
You know there is a law of nature, called the law of equal exchange. The law states that, if you want something, then you must pay for it with something else of equal value. The payment might be money or it could be energy in the form of action and follow through. In the next Chapter, Chapter Five, I will answer the question, 'Will I better off hiring a hypnotist or will purchasing a recorded program work better?'
If you would like to see the next Chapter in this series right now or you want to move on to one of my other topics that I cover in my series, like appetite suppression and weight loss, or how to quit smoking, or how to build some confidence, or some other problem, then you then you should know that I host the self hypnosis video blog, where you can easily access all my free videos in one centralized place.
